if the P5 breaks off and then the G5 Starts its own 4 team playoff, then we are stuck here holding our pud again

Once again, "FCS Forever" doesn't exist. Continuing with that strawman doesn't help your case.
6 Midwest schools becoming CUSA North would have been awesome. NDSU going alone to a southern conference would be the death of Bison athletics.

No Mr. Larsen, continuing to blame everything on the "strawman" doesn't help your case either. So what should we label you then? FCS for the next 100 years?

Status Quo Forever !!!!!
67 national titles in 70 years.
11am on a soccer field in cold dallas.
every bar knows who we are.
blah blah blah.
Frisco this year was 60% ndsu snowbirds, I saw maybe 1000 fans under 30. not even kidding.

Yes of course, FBS forever. So if the MWC called tonight I'd say no to that? It just means I know it ain't happening, not FCS Forever. Just a lazy ass take from that side of the aisle....find a solution that works for NDSU and get back to me.

Is your comeback actually "nuh uh, YOU are"? Do you even know what a strawman argument is? You can call me a fan of Bison athletics, which you clearly are not. You're a fan of your own vanity. Unlike you, I want what's best for NDSU, and that isn't joining a conference 1000 miles away with no rivals or peers.

we are 1000 miles away FROM ALL FBS conferences.. so you just strawmanned yourself.

OK "BRO." Couldn't be more excited for that epic Liberty rivalry followed by a season ending trip to the river walk in San Antonio for the abracadabra bowl on 12/23 I'm sure.

STRAWMAN ALERT!
Geography and money rule college sports. And if you don't have the first, you better have a f'ing sh*load of the other.

OK, so you're against CUSA and you say MWC ain't happening. So, you have no solution. That's always your answer.

You don't have a realistic solution either. Nobody for the FBS does.

If you're saying I'm against a move that would harm NDSU and that none of the G5 want us, you're absolutely right. To say I have no solution is completely wrong. I'm repeatedly on record saying I want to improve all our Olympic sports, improve the entire Summit League, and take some if not all of us to FBS when the opportunity is there. There's literally no downside to my plan. Even if we don't get an invite we're still better than we were before.

This will never happen
Who else in the Summit is even interested in FBS besides NDSU (let alone capable of affording the move)?
SDSU maybe at some point. That’s where the list stops. The rest either have no interest or will never be in a position to move up.
And, if anything, the number of FBS conferences will shrink, not grow.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
the summit league is dogshit moving all of our teams to FBS would help the ENTIRE program! I mean. duh.
EVERYONE better wake the F up and like now. NDSU in the summit and FCS does not ELEVATE this athletic dept or the University as a whole!!
(NDSU fanbase is already losing fans , staying status quo will kill it even more)

Yep, you understand it. The FCS Status Quo will always insist on totally unrealistic scenarios as the only move up possibility. There is nothing wrong with CUSA. Believe me, CUSA is a hell of a lot more realistic that Summit League football, and the FCS Status Quo seem to push that line a lot.

I agree. Nothing wrong with CUSA as our first FBS conference home. And yes, I would literally be more excited playing Liberty, NMSU, or UTEP over ANY MVFC school. I'm over the kiddie table football rivalries with SDSU and UNI.
What's more...I'd be excited every week to see where we were in the rankings. It might take a couple of seasons to make believers out of the sports writers that we weren't an FCS fluke. But after a couple of dominating seasons, we'd be top 25 all year long and the only question would be how deep could we go. We won't ever be #1 in my lifetime, but it would be fun to make the case once in a while for a top 10 ranking. It would be fun to be a perennial G5 power like Boise and Central Florida. Yes, if we are going to travel anyway, CUSA and FBS would excite me more than traveling 1,000 miles to play YSU.

Closest opponent in CUSA is what, Middle Tennessee? 70% of schools in Texas and Louisiana, and Florida? Hard pass.
I'm not opposed to moving FBS, but to move and join this conference sounds flat out silly.
I've been holding out hope these past few years that the G5 would somehow break off from the P5 to create their own championship, but doesn't sound like that will be happening anytime soon. Until then, I don't really see a point in entering FBS if all were going to be playing for is the "Charmin Ultra Bowl."

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I'm not saying CUSA is the best ever
but if it's a football affiliate and we fly to 5 away games every year in exchange for 5 FBS home games and 2 POWER 5 out of conference games with $2
million payouts in Big 10/Big 12. they HELL YA I'm all for it.
Mountain West ALL sports is the goal (or Big 12 )
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
That schedule is a pipe dream. Must be awesome to just make random shit up that'll never happen and hope it sticks.
Hell yeah Big10 champs, Rose bowl, I'm all for it!

We are only flying 5 times in a 12 game schedule that has 2 P5 OOC road games?

Here’s the difference bro: my solution is temporary just like the great west sucked but was a stepping stone.
We made the most out of that and got into a great position to dominate.
Where would we be had we waited for the big sky or gateway to come calling?
Time for us to yolo bro.

Nothing will happen for a couple months anywhere with respect to any realignment. After that, who knows really ...
https://www.ncaa.org/news/2022/1/10/...ext-steps.aspx
"The (D1) board will also conduct a joint meeting with the (D1) Transformation Committee to provide its perspective to the committee as it begins its work."
That was just last week

Re: A new and better FBS thread
At risk of repeating myself, an FBS conference doesn't want a football affiliate. Why?
Quote:
20.02.6 Football Bowl Subdivision Conference. A conference classified as a Football Bowl Subdivision conference shall be comprised of at least eight full Football Bowl Subdivision members that satisfy all bowl subdivision requirements. An institution shall be included as one of the eight full Football Bowl Subdivision members only if the institution participates in the conference schedule in at least six men's and eight women's conference-sponsored sports, including men's basketball and football and three women's team sports, including women's basketball.
A football affiliate does not help an FBS Conference maintain that precious FBS Conference status. Eight full is minimum; ten full is better in case the next round of musical conference chairs starts. An affiliate doesn't help that calculus.
Honestly, that "full" membership is why southern teams (SHSU, JMU, JSU) get sniffs and not the northern plains. They are an easy add geographically to already southern conferences: bus trips, not flights, for the Olympic sport teams.

Would the CUSA give NDSU a football only invite? If they did I don’t see how the NDSU administration doesn’t seriously consider this opportunity. But at this point it is all speculation that we would even get an invite we could accept. I honestly we won’t see that kind of invite. NDSU turning down the idea of full CUSA membership is very real. Making the CUSA work for all sports would be expensive and would be risky joining an unstable conference.

What if you YOLO to a shitty FBS conference and actually lose attendance at the Fargodome? Is that going to put NDSU in great position for the next conference to come calling? There ain't no guarantees in attendance or the latter.
SPORTS! OMG!

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Everyone remembers Adam Vinatieri, the legendary NFL field goal kicker who went to SDSU. Adam also had a nephew that was a field goal kicker for SDSU a few years back. So the Vinatieri family has a strong connection to SDSU.
Well Adam's son, AJ Vinatieri just committed to a school. He had seven offers, including SDSU. So where did the kid commit to? He is going to the only FBS offer he had. It's UMASS! All the Status Quo people can ridicule UMASS all they want, but the kid took a shitty FBS school over the family legacy college SDSU. https://sports.yahoo.com/adam-vinati...ycsrp_catchall

Are you finding random facts and spouting them out without understanding what they mean? Look at those 7 offers last season. 1-10 UMass, who lost to 2 FCS teams. 3 crappy FCS schools with a combined 12 D1 wins, a Pioneer League, NAIA, and D2 school, then SDSU probably based on the name. Good for UMass on winning recruiting battles against NAIA. Plus Adam and Chase were born and raised in South Dakota, AJ is from Indiana and apparently doesn't have any ties to the area other than his dad. Wanting to step out from that shadow isn't uncommon.

But that crappy FBS school also beat out a premiere FCS school too. At least I think SDSU can be called something close to us. I noticed you only mentioned the poor offers he had. Nice of you to disregard the SDSU one. How do you explain UMass>SDSU?

Already gave a possible reason of not being in his dad's shadow. Very real possibility. He'd also be the low man on the pole at a school with a history of good kicking, where at UMass he might be a 4 year starter. That matters. Face it, this means basically nothing in the FBS/FCS debate.

So Adam V's son, who probably grew up considering "home" as MA (Pats) or IN (Colts), picked living in MA versus SD?
Amherst over Brookings?
Whodathunkit.

shocking development! Imagine had SDSU been in the CUSA with Liberty, it would've been a done deal. Lol
