The reason why we've had trouble scheduling games is the combination of the FBS team's likely loss, its payout, and the fact that it's a lower level team that screws with their strength of schedule. Once we're not a lower level team, the door mostly opens to most of the FBS schools for scheduling.

I've been on board for quite a long time. I just don't think the crazy talk helps anything.

At worst case, we could play UMass and NMSU twice a year with a home and home.
They don't really allow it, but I don't remember a time recently that they've stuck to their guns on any rules.

Yeah a lot of the "oh they are scared of us!" stuff is true and also false at the same time.
Most above average P5 schools are not afraid of playing NDSU. But the point of scheduling FCS teams is to get a glorified scrimmage. So why on earth schedule NDSU?
FBS NDSU would absolutely get games against big programs if NDSU wanted (which they would). The problem is getting enough games and home games in particular.

My problem is how little of it goes to the players seems like the SEC types are more willing to ‘fix’ that than the others. Domestic soccer in the UK for example is governed by the FA from top to bottom professional and amateur. Inside that the top for divisions, the fully professional bit is the League and they’ve got their own decision making powers etc., and at the top is the Premier League which has more autonomy still. A number of the clubs are sports clubs, plural, they don’t just have soccer. There’s plenty of tensions and fights and political jockeying but mostly it works. That structure isn’t necessarily the structure that we need but there are ways to do this.

So you have a problem with how OSU boosters spend their money?

The money they are discussing here is not fan/booster money because that amount largely does not go to the NCAA. It mostly goes directly to the schools. They have that money and keep that money. The NCAA money is like 85% March Madness media rights. A decent percentage of that money goes to D2 and D3, smaller D1 conferences, and non-revenue sports. You can call it greedy, but you can also argue they are interested in keeping more of the money they generate just like any taxpayer who would rather keep more of their salary. I don't believe they want to shut off the tap to everyone else, but I assume they want to keep more of the revenue. And also have more autonomy in some of the decision making. There are more of the smaller voters than the bigger votes so they have a lot of say over what the big boys get.
It's much more complex than just saying they are greedy. As I've said before, the best and worst thing to happen to the NCAA was the crazy growth on March Madness and the media money it generates.

Indy, where does all the money come from for the NCAA? The fans and boosters. Whether it’s TV rights, attendance, donations, it’s coming from us.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Another reason to FBS. We obvious weren't included in this survey since it says it only surveyed "Division 1 football fans". I would think this is something we'd win hands down "if" were included. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/nebr...150317160.html

It's like 80-85% of the NCAA revenue comes directly from the broadcast rights for March Madness. CBS recovers their expense through advertising. Advertisers gain revenue from that advertising so i guess if you count the money the advertisers attribute to this advertising I guess you can say the money comes from fans and boosters. CBS wouldn't bid that much if not for the fans.
Universities get a slice of that revenue but they get a larger percentage of their revenue from fans and boosters and their own sponsorship and broadcast rights. The mix of that revenue will vary from school to school.

I've only posted 3 times this week
I've been on FBS bandwagon for 10 years now, screaming yelling and convincing people and I KNOW I HAVE THE MAJORITY FOLLOWING ME for last 2-3 years now.
But this is so freakin depressing. suck in fcs the 3rd tier of football. no AD with balls, no President pushing it.
stuck with a irrelevant Basketball program for another 2-3 years with a horrible head coach & philosophy, not exciting whatsoever
wrestling, baseball - meh
women's sports who cares
NDSU is going to miss out on capitalizing on this Football Dynasty run, we are already losing attention/marketing bad right now.
I'm broken..... NDSU needs a spark.

yes bruin. majority of ndsu fans are following me on ndsu to fbs bandwagon. sorry, that's a fact. time to join the big boys

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I think we may have already missed out on "capitalizing" the run in the vernacular sense.
On the other hand, I would think the run played a role in facilities upgrades and donations so.... in the financial sense of the word, NDSU has capitalized.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
It’s kinda like the old NJCAA National Hockey tournament. Local team wins 3 in a row and start getting cocky. Then I find out that there are like only 6 schools in the entire country that participate in the tournament.

It is depressing, but I can't imagine you actually expect movement from this crew. It can't be a surprise anymore. I was surprised that nothing came of the last round of realignment. Now, no acts of commission or omission from the Athletics Dept surprises me anymore.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
is this for real? from president thread

The word from Matt Brown per a CSNbbs thread is that reliable sources say that NDSU was specifically solicited by CUSA and that we told them we don’t want any part of that. If true, unforgivable.

IF true I'm don't see any reason to not make it public or make sure it gets leaked. Making it known you won't settle for any crap FBS conference is a positive imo.

Below is the language from the thread. I know that Larson said that no conference has expressed an interest in us. So who knows if the CSNbbs remarks are to be believed. But I thought it was interesting.
RE: Question for Matt (C-USA Expansion)
I don't know about North Alabama, but I do know that CUSA reached out to a LOT of FCS schools to gauge interest in potentially joining (like, over a dozen), and a lot of them, including North Dakota State, declined to get involved in that process, or, like Missouri State, withdrew very quickly.
The folks I've been talking to over the last few months believe that EKU would take an CUSA invite right now if offered, and that they are one of the handful of FCS programs that very much wants to go FBS as soon as possible. I don't know enough about the specifics of conversations those parties had in 2021 to say concretely who declined who....but I wouldn't shocked if by say, December of 2022, EKU was preparing to join Conference USA.

100% CUSA called, 100% ML said no. That move would take ambition and risk....two things very much lacking with our leadership.
Pretty much has been reported that all our admin wants is an MWC offer to magically fall into their laps.

true. they don't want to put in the effort, the schmoozing, the phone calls, the plane trips, the golf outing, the slaps on the backs. like wtf.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
The FBS move needs to generate excitement. The "new" CUSA doesn't accomplish that whatsoever.

Yeah bro it just wouldn’t measure up to playing incarnate word, abracadabra university or northern south west Mississippi state in frisco next year.
It definitely wouldn’t live the needle like joining the great west did. I’m glad we waited for the gateway/mvfc to invite us instead.
