Another milestone for the women’s hockey team. First time they’ve been top 10 as the new rankings came out yesterday and they are ranked 6th. Not bad for a second year program

The school’s website lists Taylor Jones as the interim head coach.
During his nine years at the helm, Neville compiled a 177-81 overall record and a 104-53 record in conference play. His team’s appearances in the NAIA national tournament include three trips to the Sweet 16 and one trip to the Elite Eight.
During his tenure, he coached 10 1,000-point scorers, including the top two career scoring leaders in program history. He coached one NAIA National Player of the Year, Mason Walters.

Really strange timing, and mention of his attorney clouds things even more. Was there any smoke leading up to this?

My daughter is involved with the ladies program at UJ so she is around the men's program. Has always said Nevell was a yeller and an intimidating presence. She said on Monday a starter quit the team and things moved quickly. Bobby Knight style that doesn't work in todays age is what i see playing out.

Re: University of Jamestown to the Great Plains Athletic Conference
^^^ this sounds correct. soft as charmin society. if you even raise your voice at a player, that players cries to mommy like a bitch and they call the AD and Im guessing the University HAS TO investigate and then at that point a NAIA coach says "fuck it, im out or UJ said, just resign and we will give you a severance"

I heard during one of last years practices he went off on the team and then proceeded to take a players face and slam into the floor causing his front teeth to go through his upper lip. Told this by more than one person close to the program

Re: University of Jamestown to the Great Plains Athletic Conference
SIOUX CITY, IOWA — The No. 9-ranked University of Jamestown continued their postseason domination as they swept No. 22-ranked St. Thomas University (Fla.) (26-24, 25-22, 25-22) on Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Tyson Events Center.
The Jimmies have now won eight NAIA tournament matches in a row dating back to last season.
The first set was incredibly back and forth as there were 12 ties and 12 lead changes. Two of the Bobcats' points came in unique circumstances as the Jimmies (25-9) were called for a rotation error and later in the set, Jmmies head coach Jon Hegerle was given a red card which gave the Bobcats another point to tie the set up at 19. The Jimmies responded to their coach's passion though with a kill to take a 20-19 lead. The remainder of the set continued to be a battle as the Jimmies took a 23-20 lead, drawing a Bobcats timeout. Out of the stoppage, the Bobcats (27-3) went on a 3-0 run to tie the set up at 23. The Jimmies would finish the set on a 3-1 run to get the 26-24 first-set win.
The second set was all about big runs as the Jimmies started the set with a 7-3 run and continued it from there going on an 18-11 run to take a 24-14 lead. The Bobcats got a point on a Jimmies error to cut the deficit to 24-15 and that kickstarted a 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 24-22. After a Jimmies timeout, Aleah Zieske was able to put down a cross court kill to give the Jimmies the 25-22 second set win. Despite the big run being kicked started by a Jimmies error, the Jimmies hit the ball well in the penultimate set having 16 kills and only three errors. The Bobcats had 13 kills and seven errors.
The Bobcats got out to an early 10-6 lead in the third set but the Jimmies kept chipping away from there tying the set up at 12. The defending national champions kept it up from there taking a 16-13 lead. The Bobcats refused to go away though as they managed to cut the deficit to 22-21. However, a Darienne Johnson kill pushed the lead out to 23-21 and the Jimmies were able to use that to get a 25-22 third set win.
The Jimmies are back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, when they take on Corban University.
STU 0, UJ 3
STU: 24 22 22–0
UJ: 26 25 25–3

I got to referee their very first competition in that stadium. It was their first year and they only had freshmen. They played a D3 JV team and crushed them. After only a couple seasons they've been ranked in the top 5 consistently. They finished #6 this year and lost to #4 Georgetown yesterday in the quarterfinals. Their initial head coach was hired by Iowa State after last year and has a very bright future.
Love small college athletics!!

Re: University of Jamestown to the Great Plains Athletic Conference
Is the money that good at the D2 level compared to NAIA? As a fan/alum, I think seeing your teams compete would be more fun than becoming the next Minot State.

The number of scholarships increase. NAIA has fewer restrictions around recruiting so you'll have student athletes that maybe couldn't get accepted so many D2 schools. From a football perspective can say the level of play is fairly similar. The top D2 schools would beat most top NAIA Z schools, but they aren't that different. We have some of the top NAIA schools in indiana and they would likely beat the 1 D2 school (UIndy) who is often ranked in the top 20. The gap between the D2 abs NAIA schools up there is probably greater.

Kudos to the Jimmies!!! With the great leadership they have had and still have, UJ has come a long way since the mid 70's. My father-in-law was a state senator (2 terms) during that time frame. He remembers officials from the college and city of Jamestown appealing to the legislature for funding help. During that time, enrollment was down to 300 to 400 students. With those enrollment numbers, maintaining the school was not sustainable and was in danger of closing. So hats off to UJ and hoping the Jimmies have success in the NSIC!!!

Re: University of Jamestown to the Great Plains Athletic Conference
Jamestown seems to be pretty creative in recruiting students and keeping alums involved. Growing up there, I had zero interest in sticking around for college, but seems to be a unique school relative to the other non-NDSU/UND schools along with U Mary.

We moved here in ‘70. The growth of the college since then has been nothing short of amazing. You’d be hard to find a better president than the current one in Polly Pederson

Closed a couple months ago. Really miss it on the northside of Jamestown. There is a new place by UJ called Spirits. Similar menu but I am not sure if they have the weiner fix you are craving.

I need all the fixings. Neither one of my sisters could belive it. They both graduated here.
My 8th grade son went to Cordell Volson football camp and then Jamestown wrestling camp. At wrestling camp the Jamestown football coach told my son he noticed him at Cordell's camp and was really impressed to see him wrestling too. Told him wrestlers make good football players. I was glad he heard it from somebody other then me!
