Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
I pray NDSU doesn't go FBS for at least 15 to 25 years.... being a low FBS team is just boring..... look at teams in the Sun Belt...... have you honestly ever watched a Sun Belt football game? Lets save our money because we dont even have enough as it is and stay in the FCS and win National Championship rather than playing in Nobody Cares Bowl game! Threads like these are pointless because some people just don't see it.

What resources? I keep seeing this argument put out there by people who want to move up now, but I have not once, ever, seen a legitimate argument on specifics for all of these "resources".
We can't even afford to pay our coach more than the bottom feeders of FBS, and you somehow think we could be a top 15-20 school?
Maybe in about 30 years when we can keep coaches from going to Wyoming.

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
Who are the schools that have made jump from FCS to FBS in the last 15-20 years? Best case scenario Marshall? Worst case?
-
Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
Not sure all there have been a lot lately.
Did we play James Madison recently in the playoffs or something, I can't remember? Anyway they just got done with a study saying they would be well positioned to transition into FBS - so it will be interesting to see what happens with them.

The Fargrodome would suffice for the first four or five years and would lead or be near the top in attendance in MAC or Sun Belt. ( MAC schools lie regarding #s) I hate to burst your bubble but the "crap bowls" tv ratings blow away today's game. You do realize that the MAC and Sun Belt have ESPN contracts as well as regional tv contracts?

Seemed like we had a pretty good "ESPN contract" this year. And considering every game was on regional TV, seemed like we did pretty well there too.
WHERE ARE THE RESOURCES TO DO THIS THOUGH??

Nope didnt know they had built the Fargodome until many years later. Again no as I didnt know they had moved to D1 until I reconnected about 8 years ago.
But nice try at deflection. Come up with solid concrete facts on funding instead of theoretical pie in the sky bullshit.

LOL. How much $ did NDSU get? Do you have any idea how much each MAC team or Sun Belt team gets from their tv conference contracts?

A substantial number of fans and boosters are going to get bored within a couple of years and say WHO CARES if NDSU does not move up.

The senior citizen fans and boosters won't be able to stop the progressive boosters and the progressive administration and athletic department from eventually going up. Sorry to disappoint you, grandpa.

Once again where are the resources?? You have to at least give the answer to this. If you can't, then it's kinda hard to move on.

Your ignorance is astounding little boy. No where have I ever said I am opposed to a move up. I will chalk up your lack of reading comprehension to your prepubescent age. Which I am sure is also a reason for your lack of factual postings.
Bring some FACTs to the table instead of immature condescending attacks. But I guess thats all you can come up with when you dont have the brains to engage in a factual debate.
It will not disappoint me in the least if we move up. I know if that happens NDSU will have determined that moving up will be in the best interest of NDSU.

look, frisco is fun and everything...but NDSU deserves so much better than this. they deserve to play on the biggest stage. there were probably 18000 fans at the game. FCS is for Towson, Furman and CC.
if it was CC vs Towson, thered be probably 4000 tops??? NDSU is too good for this.
1.) money? What will that money bring in? Championships? Better coaches?
2.) I argue those FBS regular season games have less meaning. Boise doesn't play for anything. They play a perpetual meaningless schedule with the hopes of playing an Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl once every 20 years for a non-championship trophy. Every sport except FBS college football plays for a championship. BCS schools play for a championship, they are the top tier and NDSU is NEVER getting a piece of that. EVER. Imagine how more meaningless the bowl games become when the BCS schools are in a playoff.
3.) Your hopes and dreams are to increase viewership of Bison games from 925,000 to 1.2M viewers? Awesome. That is a hell of a goal.
4.) the biggest stage: just what do you consider the biggest stage? Auburn and FSU are playing in it if that is what you are talking about. Is that what you are talking about? Because Central Florida vs. Baylor isn't the biggest stage.
5.) 18,000 fans were at the game. Isn't that what our venue holds? It will be 30 years before a new one is built. That is reality bub. Time to come to grips with it.
6.) lastly and most importantly, none of your reasons for moving up will improve my Bison experience, or any others experience for that matter. Watching NDSU in a bowl game in Shreveport doesn't improve the fan experience in any way.
NDSU isn't going anywhere for a long time and it's sad to watch our own fanbase have such disdain for the football team because of where they play. Enjoy what we have. A hell of a team regardless of level. I choose watching the Bison play football possibly 15 games a year (9 home games) over the pride-filled fans who want to beat their chests just to say we play at the highest level (even though we never will). That is a pride issue. I'm not talkin about school spirit pride either.

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
I still love the way these move to the FBS now lovers have not addressed the most simple but necessary facts in this whole idea. First off, where are you going to come up with close to 25 million for the increased athletic budget(on top of the 16 million we have now). Where do I get that number from, well it is easy, you guys want to be like Boise St (I have seen the posts about being the next Boise St and doing like they do). Well their budget is in that 40 million range. Unless you want to operate like Wyoming who has done NOTHING in the MWC and operate on something like 21 million budget and be a bottom feeder in a bottom level conference. So please do tell us where we are going to come up with 2 1/2 times increase in the budget. That MAC and MWC TV contract is not even going to scratch the surface. That was point #1.
Point #2 what conference are you guys assuming we are just going to have Gene Taylor call up tomorrow and tell them we are joining. You assume because of location that the MAC and MWC are the ones (Big 10 never going to happen). Well so far not one of those conferences has shown any interest in us and since we need to be invited to join them that makes it a problem right. All you are doing is assuming they would want us, or even thinking that they need us, which so far they don't. If the money they are making in those conferences is so good, why would they want to share it with us.
So until at the very least those two points, which are the biggest hurdles in this FBS move talk are addressed (and there are others to address as well) there is no point acting like we are/should jump up any time soon.

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
What kind of bugs me about Lakes/Strongman/DragonsFan* etc is that they insult people who would listen to and execute an actual plan.
There are three monumental obstacles to a successful FBS move.
1. A conference invitation.
2. Coming up with an extra $16 million per year.
3. The shakeup in the BCS means that you could be committing to something that might no exist in a year. Remember the WAC Attack?
To address Problem 1, the LakesBison Plan is to insult everybody who brings it up. Maybe he wants another "pump-it-up" email campaign of direct marketing to MWC Presidents and Athletic Directors? Which begs the question: Are you f**king high?
To address Problem 2, the LakesBison Plan is to insult the intelligence of everybody who brings it up. "Blah, blah, blah, profit" is not a plan, btw.
To address Problem 3, the LakesBison Plan is to pretend it isn't a problem, which might be true. It might be an opportunity.
So you have no plan to get there, you can't make a business case as to why we'd want to get there, and all you do is insult people who have helped pay to make NDSU football what it is now (you know, the ones who actually donate to NDSU and view it as something more than a party venue.)
* And, yeah, I'm aware that Lakesbison=dragonfan=strongman.

Since it was such a lowly joke of a game for Lakes why did he bother attending? I saw him down here with my own eyes.
I am a supporter of a well executed move up plan not throw crap at the wall it will stick since we're THE mighty Bison plan that lakes and his followers are trying to push on here.

I wanted to see him play right away and he would of there. My talking him into going to UND was this. I said you could go there and start right away but it's your decision. End of conversation. Go ahead and ask Carson about it. Once again I'm a fan of both schools as I have no horse in either race. I supported his decision to go to NDSU. Now it's his turn to help bring a 4 peat.

UCF and Georgia State are really ineligible for the debate. The only reason they were FCS at all was because NCAA rules don't allow you to go straight from no football to FBS. An honest debate would be to look at historic IAA/FCS schools that made the move and what their situations were before and after. Off the top of my head, there has been one massive success, a couple okay successes, a bunch of mild failures, and a few colossal failures. We shouldn't completely rule out a move up because of all the failures, but we also shouldn't decide to go just because of what Boise State has done. Look at how well the "well they did it, so it should be easy for us" mentality has worked out for our friends up north. It's lazy thinking.

Best description of Lakes? Big Hat No Cattle.
There are some "fans" we can do without.
Gene will decide when the time is right. That's good enough for me.

Prolly helps that their enrollment is over 60k now as well (11k in 1978 and 18k in 1989 when they moved to I-AA).
