Re: A new and better FBS thread
Nobody is watching any MW schools play other than MW fans. If you add schools you add more MW fans. Folks like to watch their own 5th best regional school play on tv, too even if said schools don't draw a lot of other viewers. The MW is not competing against any other conference for tv viewers. They lose in that regard every time. Take a look at the tv deal they have. Tiny tiny tiny. There is a reason for that.
The ideal size for the MW is 9 schools. The reason they have 12 is because it adds more time zone inventory. Without the time zone inventory the conference probably does not have tv deal with a national provider.
At any rate, it does not appear that the MW has any interest in adding schools from anywhere unless they have to to maintain an 8 game football schedule.

Compared to PAC or any P5 conference, sure. At $4m/year, its not that tiny compared to other G5 conferences. Even the AAC is paying new members less.
Granted, no idea what it will look like if SDSU and one or two others leave. But at the moment, its one of the largest G5 media deals.

The AAC is distributing less to the newcomers. The tv deal is still the same..

Right, but current MWC deal is paying more than any other G5 conference would for new members.
The total deal may be same or less than what AAC has, but its still more than any other G5 conference, by at least 2x.
All relative of course. But no G5 is seeing the $20-30m+ that the P5 conferences do.
From a strictly NDSU standpoint, MWC would improve our media deal by ~$2m. If we join any other G5 conference, we'd be lucky to break even.

We don't know what the MW would distribute for new members..There hasn't been any in over 10 years.
If, the MW loses 4 top schools to parts unknown, the tv deal will go away..
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Rumors are the PAC 12 media deal is being presented today…
Judging by how we’re finding out (rumors of closed door meetings) and the timing (I’m guessing every school in the PAC demanded to see the deal they’re working on after Colorado left), it’s not an ideal one for the PAC.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Multiple outlets now reporting Arizona insiders saying the school will announce today that they are leaving for the B12.
Also sounds like the B12 will be holding at 14 for now.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
With this level of PAC 12 destruction, I'm becoming worried that this is bad for NDSU. We need the PAC 12 to survive and add new members to open a door. Otherwise, a bunch of teams start asking the Mountain West to admit them...

As long as there are 2 remaining PAC schools the conference will survive. Teams from other G5 conferences will join the PAC not the other way around.
