Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
I was starting to give up on the season already. But for my health I have mostly been emotionally detached since the 2009 NFC Championship game. So moving on about my life isn't difficult any more.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
Bahahahahaha. Got one kid who doesn't like the vikes. He was giving us crap. I told him this is the vikes vs bears. The team leading at halftime isn't winning. I've watched them play each other to many times before eh.

Anderson: Faithfully, NDSU star Carson Wentz carries football, hunting and Bible lessons to NFL https://share.google/4GVQVUUVt6F32mqoY

Another bad game for JJ McCarthy. Clock is ticking :innocent:

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
Going to be an extremely disappoint long season.
Should have a shot at beating Chicago in the dome, so at least there's hope for another win.
At this point would rather have rock salt in my pee hole than a purple jersey in my closet.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
Wonder if Carson is regretting signing with the Vikes, he might of had a shot to start for Cincinnati now......

I don't know. Looked like the Vikes need a qb too. I wouldn't volunteer until some lineman get healthy. Let the young guy get smashed by the blind side weak spot.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
It was so painful to watch. It was not all on JJ, but some of it was. Carson is going to play at somepoint as JJ will either continue to struggle and need a break, or get killed.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
well Carson is starting on Sunday, so you all got your wish/wet dreams.
Enjoy them!

Yowza. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell says JJ McCarthy has an ankle sprain and will miss this Sunday's game against the Bengals.
That means former #NDSU standout Carson Wentz will start against Cincinnati

Might be down to a 3rd string LT and backup C though... and down the 1A RB as well.

Now I'm wondering if they brought in Wentz beacuse they weren't 100% sold on McCarthy. I'm feeling Wentz will do fine with JJ and Hockenson.

If this goes well, I’m buying a Wentz Vikings jersey.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
Simmer down. Even if Wentz does well, JJ will come back in when healthy. His first game success cements that IMO.

Is KOC putting Wentz in there to be the sacrificial QB? Didn't notice JJ limping or injured last night.

His 1 quarter of success in his first game? I’m not sold.

Don't care - you can't douse this fire! This will be 2-4 more starts than I ever expected Wentz to have in a Vikings uniform.

KOC claimed the medical staff told him this is the type of injury that is usually worse the next day than it is right after it happened due to adrenaline and less swelling built up etc. It does seem a little fishy but they're saying 2-4 week recovery timeline now...

I predict you'll have $170 to spend on something else.

He took alot of hits, and you can play the rest of the game with a sprain, it's not uncommon. Especially before it swells up like a balloon.
This is the worst position for the coach to be in, because if Wentz plays well for a couple games, you have to decide whether or not to put JJ back in, so I'm pretty sure he's hurt.
No conspiracy theory going on here.

With that offensive line, if I was Wentz I might "accidentally" fall down the stairs today.

Not sure I agree with that. He's still young, and would not be a "lost cause" already if Wentz lit it up. (Not saying he will, BTW) It gives you a chance to win now, which is pretty darn important. They had no hope of winning with other back up options they looked at.
I'd see little harm if JJ ended up sitting the rest of the year IF Wentz ripped it up. Give JJ a chance to learn, and the Vikings would be in same delemna as last year, and when Kirk left. They arean't goint to want to shell out any big guarentees to someone Carson's age, so he would likely walk unless he'd agree to a 1 year deal. JJ got the tast of starting, learns another year, and tries again next year. That would not be so bad, honestly.

I am a big Wentz fan but this is not a good position to be in cause that line is bad right now and he struggles with a bad line as most QBs do. Only like the top five QBs can overcome a bad line in the regular season. Guys like Wentz and Darnold and most other QBs just struggle with a bad oline.

This could be a win-win-win for Vikes&Wentz fans-
Wentz - plays well, wins the SB for Vikes (beating Eagles in NFC Championship, Colts in SB), rides off into sunset with a better story than Warner.
O'Connell - becomes all-time QB whisperer for winning with lost-causes Darnold & Wentz, Vikes get JJ and pick of litter for other free agents as long as he's here.
JJ - learns another year (no-one ever says Erin or JLove were worse off for sitting 3 years, much less 2), bulks up a little, builds on early experience, comes back still on rookie contract.
A man can dream, right?
Realistically JJ will probably start again when he's healthy even with Wentz doing well, hopefully line gets healthy next 2-3 weeks, D is playing pretty good. I think JJ will be a good QB long-term; he's won at all levels, and a better arm/athlete than most people think (including me last year).

Well, no matter what Carson will make NFL history if he does start on Sunday: https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1967708539184615931
Quote:
Carson Wentz will start for his 6th team in 6 seasons — which is something no QB in NFL history has ever done.
• 2025: Vikings
• 2024: Chiefs (1 game)
• 2023: Rams (1 game)
• 2022: Commanders (7 games)
• 2021: Colts (17 games)
• 2020: Eagles (12 games)

If Darrisaw comes back that OL could shift dramatically in a better direction.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
I think KOC has noticed the same thing that Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes did last year. I think he sees that everything Wentz does is starting caliber and all the talent in the world.
KOC looked completely exasperated with JJ's performance last night. I think he figured out JJ wasn't quite ready and that is why he got Wentz. He might have reached out to Andy Reid and got filled in on Wentz.

I hope you’re right but I don’t think Mahomes would do too well behind the current O-line.

No. Way. This is amazing.
Also, while I love Carson and would love to see him light it up...I just feel like he's going to continue to make slow decisions behind center. He always seems to hold onto the ball a half second too long, throw an incomplete deep ball (instead of throwing quick short open passes) and get hit, and then take too many sacks.
My prediction: He will be sacked 8 times this coming week, go 15-27 for 200, with 1 TD and 2 INT.
-
Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
This will be without a doubt the team with the best weapons he's ever played with including the 2017 Eagles IMO. Wish the oline was better though.....

While he has struggled at times behind bad olines (ie Redskins) and you could be right, peoples memory of what Wentz has done is mostly based on the media dragging him down. His TD to Interception ratio is actually quite good and way better that what the media gives him credit for. Most announcers are way to lazy to realize he had good years after his 2017 year and even his Colts year was a pretty good year.
-
Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
Vikings oline better improve or he will play just like JJ!
-
Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
Carson Wentz throwing to Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen, oh baby, its fireworks every Sunday night, could be, could be....

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
The Colts season was a crazy one. Carson actually played well overall, but imploded in the last game with playoffs on the line. He had a couple bad picks that went viral, and had a huge feud with Irsay over Covid (and maybe Christianity?). The media picked it up and it exploded into a narrative he never really recovered from.
That said, for Washington, he just flat out played bad. I dont know if it was a combo of oline, scheme, etc., but he started hanging onto the ball wayyy too long. I seem to recall a 9 sack game?
Hope he does well. Has to release the ball on time. Hopefully not too rusty after 2 starts in 2 and a half seasons.
-
Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
I saw a reference in an article to what Carson told the Vikes before they picked him up: he was ready to serve the team in whatever role they needed him to fill. If he's grown into that level of self-knowledge, I'm confident he'll be ready and able to light it up.

You are correct with Washington. But Washington went into the year with a weak oline that year and their best olineman went down in game two if I remember correctly with a torn acl. This kind of setup the tailspin. I will say it again Wentz has always does well with a decent oline but has struggled with a bad oline as most good QBs do. Great QBs can overcome some oline weakness cause they process at an insane speed for the most part but it can even catch up with them ask Mahomes against Tampa in the super bowl.
