I wonder if SDSU is ready and willing. The others don't seem likely at all to me. We aren't going to merge MVFC with MWC.
It's a great FCS conference, but lets be real, it's not that close to MWC level.
Now if someone said let's merge MAC and MVFC, maybe that could be viable in some respects.
I'd also agree if people said we would run the table in MAC year 1. Big difference between these conferences.

Lots of land grants in the MW. NV, USU, WY, CSU, and Hawaii. R1 High research schools. NV, UNLV, USU, CSU, NM and Hawaii.
You do have that in common with several MW schools..I think that helps your case..

As for FBS, I'm more with NDSU's leadership: The AAC seems like a better fit for NDSU's budget and time zone. That said, NDSU is a beggar in this, not a chooser.
Time zone is a little better, but I'd be a little shocked if AAC gave us any real consideration. They are even more top 25 media market and basketball focused than MWC. I think they have other FBS schools nearby that would jump for an open spot, and I can't recall them ever inviting a FCS school. Pretty much the top dog in G5 FBS, and they can rob other conferences outside of MWC. They also replaced 3 departing schools with 6 new ones, and have less of a need to backfill again if someone leaves. They may just stand pat.
In terms of budget/money, the AAC has a two-tiered payout system. The old legacy schools are getting $7m, while the newbies they invite are only getting $2m payouts. I don't see how thats better. We'd have to come up with even more cash up front, unless I'm missing something. Maybe the MWC payout goes down some, but I doubt it will be below $2m.

"We may just have to live with what we have, which would be very difficult for Fargo in particular,” Martinson said, referring to NDSU’s potential loss of Minnesota students."
Who is this guy? Try to hide your glee a little better bro. What a joke. NDs higher ed model is not at all good. Where did this come from again? Oh, that’s right … Makes guys like this happy though. lol
'NDSU stands to lose $6.5 million in combined tuition, fees and funding formula loss and UND would lose $4.6 million from the first year of the Minnesota North Star Promise, per estimates presented at the meeting.'
There’s only one real solution here, folks.
"Now let’s hear it for your North Dakota University Bison, the green and gold, the pride of Fargo, and the pride of ND"
Works for me.

Apparently this Martinson person has never heard of a phase out. If his only concern is that some people near the income limit may manipulate their earnings to take undue advantage of a program that is not a hard thing to fix.

Oh, there’s a method to my madness bro
Highest endowment in the state – check
Highest research status in the state – check
Most D1 athletic success in the state – check
Lowest dependence on state for D1 athletics funding – check
Biggest city in the state – check
It's obvious where to invest for the future of ND, no? It should be

The North Star Promise is a disaster waiting to happen and the exact opposite of what should happen, but it will be great for the flagship Dakota schools. As an MSU-Mankato alumni we are screwed hard, the volume of students on the fence academically attending will skyrocket. Its like a free test drive. We effectively accept everyone already, so this will further lower university profile for acceptance rate, average ACT, average GPA, and graduation rate. More great news for us is kids with parents making over the threshold will push their kids to go to other schools with better academic profiles. Side note, the UofM will not be effected because of the academic profile required to attend.

This reminds me of the time UCONN tried to force UCF into a rivalry game lol.

Yeah forced rivalries are lame and hokey. Gonna take some time to ramp up some bad blood/sibling rivalry wherever we go, just like when we went D1. Just how it is, not worth trying to start something that isn’t there.
