Bronco Nagurski was a dude, though.

Look at every non-NDSU championship game in Frisco. Pretty unimpressive attendance as well.

That fan base isn't looking so rabid lately...

Yeah that’s pretty much the gist of it lol
It’s the second to last home game of the year, other team is a “top 7 team” lol, next week it’s Montana or JMU in the dome and we have 12,000 if we’re lucky. We had better attendance before the band wagoners jumped on and back off.

Right, but even in a down year that rabid fan base is outdrawing all other FCS and FBS teams that are playing in Frisco in a given year.
That won’t change for bowl games, as long as we stay successful as a program. Look at the teams playing in Frisco this year. I’ll gladly trade Sammy for any four of those teams.

They won their last national championship in 1960. Helmets, forward passes, and even television.
But, you get what you deserve. I'm a gopher fan and this season is entirely different if we do our job and beat Bowling Frickin Green. No excuse. Some assistants should have been fired. But Fleck is sort of the Dave Richman of college football. Culture, culture, culture, excuses, excuses. And he's a narcissist. Results not as important.

Fleck did let the Offensive Coordinator go after the regular season, getting his gang back together

Yeah they "won" the championship in 1960, along with four other teams lol
They didn't even win their bowl game that year

everyone read this tweet and replies, especiallys montana's dj colter's. I tried to tell ALL of you 2 years ago about this when JJ left and Entz/Roehl were furious.
its all about the AD/PRES NOT SOLICITING/PURSUING FBS conference's the past 3-4 years.
the FANS aren't going because of it as well. there is 0% chance the attendence/ferver/attention comes back if they stay the current course, can we ALL agree on that!! so its time, its been time!

Regardless, it seems so stupid for ESPN not to do more to promote their own property (the broadcast of the FCS championship game). Take 10% of the FBS championship commercials and make them an "ESPN: Home of College Football Championships" and mention FCS, Division 2, and Division 3. Do a little more to drive viewership. It is almost like coverage of all these other things are throw-aways just to get the FBS bowls and championships.

The signage in Minnesota's stadium is a tribute to the greatness of their past . . . and their futility in seasons that anyone can remember!
The national championship claims just scream "We haven't done anything lately!"

FCS is a niche group, it's a big niche, but still a niche. Those that want to watch already know about it. Not going to grab many casual viewers.

GO FBS. then you don't have to worry about 3 playoff games or people w Thanksgiving/holiday events

I have to think that there would be more interest in the FCS championship game if they devote some significant effort to promote it. You are describing the core fan base. However, TV profits are made in the margins by grabbing additional viewers.

I doubt they would get much bang for their buck if they did excessive promoting. It may move the needle some but not enough to make the time and effort to promote it. That would be money for ABC/ESPN in advertising revenue and they have a pretty good pulse on what their market will be.

anyone else sick of this fat little toad always ripping on ndsu. plus.. its funny how all sdsu, usd, uni und fans are ripping NDSU fans for wanting to go FBS?? obviously its jealousy.
Zach Borg
@IceBorg
It’s also a shame one (#JamesMadison) is leaving for the FBS and the other (#NDSU) desperately wants to follow them giving up a terrific playoff and rivalry for the “honor” of playing worthless bowl games in Detroit and Shreveport.

Friday nights atmosphere will be better than any bowl NDSU would ever achieve at FBS....except for those "you're telling me there's a chance" fans.

NDSU fans would bring 25,000 to a Las Vegas Bowl or Arizona bowl in December with all the snowbirds and alums... hahaha nice try

Who would we play? Troy, Southern Miss, North TX, Memphis, South Florida? That's the only marquee programs I can think of.

I’m hoping Friday night’s atmosphere is as good as previous semifinal games. It should be. That being said, these are the type of statements that are ridiculous. Most of us on here have attended very few, if any, bowl games. The reality is that there are some really great bowl game atmospheres and destinations. I have friends who are big gopher fans. They’ve traveled to many of the recent bowl games in the kill and fleck era. They have really enjoyed themselves. They typically haven’t been playing in the marquee bowls. I think the bowls that NDSU would/could achieve would create experiences very similar to Frisco, just in more varied locations.

I am sure there are bowl games with great atmospheres. I can tell you for a fact that the Orange Bowl isnt one of them.

Never been so I’ll defer to you on that. My point is that the Bison fans have proven that they will travel. The Target Field game vs. Butler was not a great game or atmosphere throughout but I enjoyed the entire experience with friends and fellow Bison fans. Frisco has been much better games when I’ve been there and the experience around the games have been fun. Bowl games would likely be no different. Competition, venue, locale, weather, etc. will make some better than others but those types of experiences always seem to bring out the best in the bison fan base. I think Bowl games will likely be very enjoyable because we will bring our fun with us. It’s what the NDSU fan base does. No different at a bowl game.

Agreed. It may not be 10-15k fans but it could be more with the right matchup and location. A large part of the fun of the championship games is seeing old friends from college and making a couple new ones. That can happen at any bowl game anywhere.

There is not a single chance we bring that many to a shitty bowl bowl. 0%. See ya Friday. It’s gonna be legit

I am Gopher fan as well. Auburn NYD game sure. That’s it and not a realistic scenario for NDSU. Therefore; not ridiculous, but realistic statement. No single low level FBS game will have fridays atmosphere, no doubt in my mind.

15k go to Frisco for the FCS championship. Doesn’t seem like a stretch that the same would go to Vegas, Florida or Arizona for a bowl game. The FCS championship is comparable to a low level FBS bowl game. Towson brought maybe 1000 fans. We still made it enjoyable.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
reason #8348 for FBS.
we just lost RECRUIT #2 to a FBS program that was committed. we getting used.

NDSU travels to Frisco because fans have a 4 month heads up on when and where it is. Give them a 3 week notice and a toilet bowl game give or take a few days around Christmas… good luck with that.
