The other Conferences including The SEC, Big 12, Notre Dame, & the Group of 5 conferences are all for the 12 team playoff system that was proposed earlier this year. The 6 Top ranked conference champions would get Automatic bids and the other 6 spots would be selected by a committee.
The proposed 12 team playoff system has the Top 4 teams getting 1sr round byes. The other teams without byes would see the higher seeed teams getting a home playoff game. I would think the 4 teams getting the 1st round byes would want home playoff games as well.
A representative for 43 bowl games wants the bowl games to be used for the playoffs. Notre Dame has made an offer that they cannot be seeded any higher than 5th, even if they are undefeated and ranked 1st in the polls. This is to offset the lack of a conference championship game.
Which would you rather see? I am totally against the 8 team playoff system and automatic bids for conference champions. Now the 12 team playoff system has a better plan and if the PAC 12 cannot get a team into the playoffs that is their fault. The Former PAC 12 commissioner made a statement about the 12 team playoff system “ It just means 4 or 5 SEC teams will get into the playoffs”.
Look at the current teams and use both the 8 and 12 team playoff system and see which teams would get in.
PAC12 has small-man syndrome. SEC has all the power and late time TV slots are tough. But they'll get over it

And I'm sure there are donors that are going to find a new way to spend their money if NDSU doesn't get something done with FBS even if it means joining CUSA.

Luke Fickell was told at his radio show about Gary Barta’s comments that Cincinnati hasn’t beat anyone besides Notre Dame. Fickell’s response?
“Who’s the chairman? Did he play football?” #Bearcats
HAHA NDSU QB dumbasses!!
which reminds me. with Gary Barta/Gene Taylor on that committee, the AAC should invite NDSU this week and then Gary/Gene will put Cinci up to #2 or #3 that's a WIN WIN!!

Wow is right. Here is the list of who's moved up in the last decade.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
SDSU fans seem to be against moving up which is fine. There is only so much FBS talent in MN and WI so this works. Hopefully Mo State and ISU red are ready to pull the trigger.

Wellllll, not so much a geography problem as a population deficiency.

Couple the two and you have what we have. To over come those hurdles you have to bring something incredible to the table. Which has nothing to do with sports.

Your assumption that Gary supports NDSU is inaccurate.

Stiggy says "WHY" well of course he says WHY because SDSU hasn't won shit! we've done it for 11 years now

Ouch. CAS, isn't he "once a Bison always a Bison"? He go big time and forget his roots?

Looking at the current roster there is only so much FCS talent in ND, MN, SD, WI as well. I counted 47 players beyond the RRV ring of states (yeah, WI is outside that but it was part of AK's contention). There are players from CA, WA, FL, GA, TX, IL, MO, IA, NE, and KS on the current roster. FBS would not likely change the recruiting footprint for NDSU all that much.

Is Stig going to use the same recruiting argument that NDSU has used against G5 schools trying to recruit the same players? Why play in a crappy bowl game when you can be competing for a national title every year. We have some crappy years in the G5 and SDSU might start stealing our recruits…..

NDSU doesn't use that recruiting argument. NDSU uses the recruiting argument. "WE ARE NDSU, WE WIN GAMES, WE PUT YOU IN THE NFL"

Will it be harder to recruit local guys that want to play away games close to where their family lives so they can get to more games? Might be used as a argument to recruit against us.

I don't think there is a real concern that NDSU is going to lose quality players because a kid wants his mom and dad to be able to drive to Vermillion or Brookings to watch him play a road game once or twice a year.

If anything it works to our advantage. We get many of our skilled players from Florida, Georgia and Texas. We would have non conference games in Florida, Texas and Alabama
Most player families are just happy to have home games within driving distance. Of course these other teams also lose a short trip to Fargo every other year too
Also most northern kids would prefer to play games in the south come November
The the biggest factor is 22 more scholarships
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
this ain't HIGH SCHOOL or D2/D3 . Parents of a FBS player will be willing to travel for 8-10 times FFS.... ridiculous argument!
NDSU will 100% dominate any recruit in ND/SD/Minn that isn't going to Wisc/Iowa/Iowa St/Minnesota.

This is probably more a Hammersmith question, but it's not just 22. It's 22 plus the Title IX equity impacts. Is NDSU ready to manage that? Which women's sports would benefit?
To my eye, NDSU is at 16 sponsored sports, minimum for FBS. No issues there; but is there room to add women's scholarships to balance?
Side note: Strangely, when UND cut sports, they didn't go to 14 (FCS minimum), they too stopped at 17 (and put men's golf on death watch, so effectively 16).

I mean, those schools lose kids to bigger P5's but yes, I suspect NDSU would have an easier time getting their leftovers.

Summit sponsors Tennis and Swimming/Diving for which we currently don’t field teams. Hat tip to Hammersmith who iirc posted to this effect recently on one of the zillion threads related to this subject.

Adding teams? That sounds expensive.
It'd be easier if there were open slots to fund scholarships in existing women's sports (while not going over NCAA limits obviously).

I think NDSU has been fully funded* in women's sports for a decade or more. No room to grow there. Only way to add more women's scholarships at NDSU is to add more sports. Tennis is cheap. S&D is fairly cheap now that West Fargo built a big swimming facility. I think it would have everything a DI program needs except for platform diving. Major issue now is that it's already shared by three high school programs(WF, Sheyenne, Horace). Those two sports are likely preferred because they have ready-made homes(Summit). The other choices of rugby, wrestling, lacrosse, etc. all have the problems of extremely few other programs around us. And equestrian is f--ing expensive to run. It would be our own version of UND women's hockey.
*there have been years where some women's sports like basketball didn't use all the scholarships(coughdumbcough), but the money was always there

That would be easy. Our endowment funds for athletic scholarships would cover the difference. It's grown to the point where Teammakers is funding capital projects.
But having more scholarships would off set some laughable idea that mom and dad want to drive to vermillion every 2 years

I think you'd pause on sport selection in case you're not in the Summit (align to a new home's offering).
But, equestrian, hockey, as a start-up or continuing expense (without a gate to support it) ... pass. Run away. (Learn from other's mistakes. :paperbag: )

I think that people are not factoring in is there are some big money alumni that will step up to the plate.

If UND were to "someday" go FBS, would you be willing to bring back womens hockey to keep in compliance? Asking for a friend from UND.
