That he did, kind of surprising, they must be paying well because he won't even start there over Mast, so he left a place where he could be the dude to go be the 6th man and likely play 15-20 minutes a game.

Nebraska lost one big man (Allick) to graduation and another (Wilcher) to the portal. Plenty of PT available.

It looks like Calipari is leaving UK for a couple of reasons. The first is he doesn't get along with AD. Apparently, this is not a major reason, though, as Calipari could win this battle. The second is there was a promise to build a million dollar nil fund. It only got to 50k and Calipari is not happy to work with that. Arkansas already had a nil fund that is quite robust.
My point is there are big time schools that are not in the greatest shape when it comes to nil.

Yet there were boosters willing to cough up $33M for his buyout.

As I understand it he wasn't owed that buyout since he "voluntarily" left for another job. I put voluntarily in quotes since I'm pretty sure he was given more than a little bit of a nudge out the door.

No you are right … no buyout was needed … but there was enough disgruntled boosters that wanted him gone. He barely survived remaining this year.
