…or they will be like all the Bama and Clemson fans I knew 3-6 years ago who just skipped the semis to go to the championship

Bama fans could justify it. Clemson is a bitch school.

I'm sure he had no idea they wanted him until he hit the portal.

Well the Alabama OC recruited him to Notre Dame. So I mean, even if there wasn't any tampering, he probably had a pretty good idea of being wanted by Alabama.

Lol I sense some sarcasm and I like it.

Sure, anything could happen, but that conference has structural advantages, along with generally higher rated teams across the board.
AAC is like the G5 version of MVFC.
MWC/SBC are like Big Sky and CAA.
MAC is OVC/Big South
CUSA is NEC.
Sure, things can change a bit over decades, but some folks seem to believe the NEC will dethrone the MVFC.
The difference is, in FBS only 1 of these conferences will get an entry to the playoffs each year.
People saying the CFP is the reason to join FBS need to be all in on AAC.

I do not think the MW will be in the mix much at all..Maybe every once in awhile. It is certainly not the best choice if you only want that playoff slot. Maybe the AAC or the Sunbelt will offer you a better chance..
This is a fair take.
I think to join FBS, it needs to be playing against conference teams that will give us enjoyable games that our fans can be excited about.
MWC checks the boxes for me, but there's certainly no guarantee we would make the CFP playing in that conference.
I could accept a move to the MAC also, but honestly wouldn't be that excited about it, and might attend fewer games.
