Absolutely. Waiting for an invitation to the perfect conference/situation to just fall in our laps is stupid. Get there, prove viability and success and continue to build. We literally cannot do anything else at this level to show the university is ready for bigger things.

Why do you guys rail on ML when he’s not the one you should be railing on?

When NDSU gets a Falwell let me know... then Indy might be an option. Until then it's not sustainable for anything beyond a few years and I fail to see how NDSU is any more attractive to a prospective FBS conference as an Indy than they would be as an FCS program. I agree that NDSU absolutely should be reaching out to CUSA to gauge the feasibility of a football only invite... but I do not think NDSU should bend over backwards for an invite.

That’s how this is usually done, no? Why would NDSU be any different?

A president having a Director of Athletics that they couldn’t consult, lean on and trust for a decision like this would be a fool of a president. Dean Bresciani is not a fool.
Besides, Dean isn’t the one getting interviewed by the media on a monthly basis. Why would the media incessantly ask ML if he has no say in the matter?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Dakotas and Montanas should start a new conf and sue the NCAA, claiming anti-trust violations, for a waiver to start a new fbs conference. Look at the profile of these schools compared to the lower G5 schools.. theres no reason that geography should be the only reason a school like NDSU cant move up. Leverage this in a way to get schools like uni and illinois state into the same all sports conference. Add a couple more teams out west and have protected rivalries to help with travel cost.

There is one Dakota school with support to make FBS work, maybe a 2nd. The other two would be dead weight.
The Montanas can’t even spell FBS and nor would they want to.
Best part is where you convince UNI and Illy State to leave the MVC. Ha!

Read the quote from Craig Thompson again. He specifically says he's talking to “presidents” not “ADs”
Your blame is misdirected. The question is why. You're not alone in this line of thought, but it is misdirected

Don't really understand where the notion comes from that Montana and Montana St aren't FBS ready. They have among the least subsidized athletic departments in the FCS. Montana is about the only FCS school near NDSU in that regard. They both outdraw NDSU. They both have solid program tradition. Genuinely curious why some of you are so sure they're not FBS material given the standard for that seems to be getting lower by the minute.

Oh no, they have everything to make it work, you’re right about that. It’s just that the Montana’s have been vocal in the past about not wanting to go FBS. And everyone I’ve talked to in their fan base is on board with that.

Yeah I get your point; decision maker is president, person conference talks to is president, etc. I get that.
Let’s put it this way: you have a company. Company has a CEO with a bunch of department heads underneath. When it comes to decisions a department makes, that falls on department head. CEO has final buy off, but that person is responsible for the department. Overall hiring/firing, budgets, etc. is on department head.
Also, Bresciani has shown a lot of vision in advancing the university and has continually proven himself by sticking his neck out and advocating for the university. IMO, I and others haven’t seen that from Matt L and that can be adding to it.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
New reshaped C-USA
West Division
North Dakota State (football only)
South Dakota State (football only)
Montana (football only)
Montana State (football only)
Sam Houston State
Stephen F Austin
UTEP
New Mexico State
East Division
FIU *
Louisiana Tech *
Middle Tennessee *
Western Kentucky *
Jacksonville State
Central Arkansas
UMass (football only)
UConn (football only)
Arkansas-Little Rock and UT-Arlington are rumored to be joining as full conference members but not in football so that would be 12 non football teams
Then when the Mountain West Collapses in a few years, the 2 Montana and 2 Dakota schools

right now I like every plan that has us going FBS. But I really like this configuration. However, if CUSA saves us from FCS, I wouldn't be in any hurry to join MWC or bail them out. If we've got the Montanas and South Dakota State in the CUSA, we don't really need Wyoming or New Mexico or Nevada.

At this point the rest of MVFC and FCS has to be licking their chops at the idea of NDSU moving up. I’m surprised UNI and Illinois State haven’t gifted us seed money to get us the hell out of the conference.

At first, I was like: woah no way, this is FCS 2.0. But then I was like: woah, the former FCS teams would romp the conference and probably perform very well OOC which would be interesting. I guess it’s better than what we have now?

Idk why they would give ndsu money to leave... the only thing they get excited about is basketball.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I would have to believe Conference USA would give NDSU a football only invite at this point. They have to be desperate and NDSU football would give them a nice story and some headlines.
But does NDSU want it?
The fan base opinion has really swung and the sentiment for FBS still seems to be building.

Majority is pro-FBS, not sure about the big donors specifically. For what it’s worth, I think JMU going up is going to swing a lot of FCSers that are left. They were the only program currently holding a candle to us.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
NDSU should want the BIG 12 as a 10 year long term goal.
you BEG PLEAD WHATEVER to get into the CUSA and Dominate & build up a war chest for a new stadium then JUMP to Big 12 in 2030.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
The 20 year plan should be the NFC North. That would certainly be good for recruiting.

According to Sagarin NDSU would be #1 in the following FBS divisions:
-Sun Belt-West
-MAC-West
-MAC-East
-Conference USA-East

When has that not been a fact every year in the last decade? You should be spending your time getting answers out of Larson, go to his office, get the media to ask the straight up questions, step up Chapo!

Re: A new and better FBS thread
So NDSU would be at TOP of all these G5 leagues as a team, period, we all know that.
We've debunked the stupid "TRAVEL" excuse (1 time every 2 years to Fargo on a plane, maybe 1-2 hours)
NOW lets debunk the "NdSu neEdS a BIggER sT@d.M"
at 19,000/game sell out, NDSU/Fargodome would be just fine in these G5 leagues & argue "would you rather have a full loud stadium or 20,000 in a 40,000 seat half empty stadium?"
https://collegefootballnews.com/2020...ogram-analysis
8. Mountain West
Attendance 5-Year Average: 23,880.77
9. Conference USA
Attendance 5-Year Average: 19,593.21
10. Sun Belt
Attendance 5-Year Average: 17,583.04
11. MAC
Attendance 5-Year Average: 15,697.78

Re: A new and better FBS thread
NDSU 143 -11 in FCS last 11 years. what more do you want? like what's the point anymore! 15,500 fans last week, 14,000 this week. NDSU needs to make moves! FBS or BUST right now!

I still enjoy competitive games, but I'm not your typical fan. I'm a hardcore fan. Clearly the fan base is getting a little bored with the regular season and early round playoffs. Homecoming is always great. UNI is usually good. It almost feels like the entire season is building up to a matchup with SDSU and the semi final game or a great quarter final. (but otherwise we get no name teams like toothpaste Colgate, San Diego, Wofford College or another conference matchup we've seen 50 times)

@MattBrownEP
Hearing the CUSA candidate pool among FCS teams could expand beyond just Texas and Louisiana. Don't be surprised if Missouri State, or even potentially other FCS programs, get into the mix soon as well.

You should probably review the definition, such as if is, of ‘love’.
