they havent said ANYTHING because they don't have ANYTHING no vision, no desire, no wanting to upset the apple cart. Dean has been retiring for 5+ years now & Matt is just happy he isn't at Stony Brook.

There was a feasibility study done. If I recall correctly, they said don't do it unless you get invited into an established conference. But I guess they were comfortable establishing their own football conference. Clearly it worked out.
Time will tell if they're willing to step out and take another risk....or if it's even an option (willing conference).

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I personally would love for us to join FBS. FCS has been great & we put our brand on the national level cuz of it, I feel it's time to see if we are able to get an invite to move up & continue our domination in football (which I believe we can). I just want to hear NDSU themselves say they want/plan to move up aswell.

The looming question of geographic regionalization will slow G5 realignment down considerably. I wouldn’t expect any movement until the off season at the earliest.

No, nothing new but an AAC ADs perspective on regionalization and (yet more) speculation on what that might look like.
Aresco doesn’t seem like the cooperative type so I guess I’m pessimistic that anything of use will come out of it. FWIW, I think geographic regionalization is a good idea for the G5 (too late for the P5 I guess).

It might be good for the G5, but it isn't good for us, given that we don't fit into anyone's existing region.

What if there is no realistic way to make that the future and you're just setting up fans and donors for disappointment and then they become even less interested?

I think the idea is to reshape the whole thing. Yes, it's a long shot but at least someone brought it up.
Speaking from a purely hypothetical perspective, this would be the ideal geographic G5 conference for NDSU. I would call this reasonably geographical based purely on time zone. Still talking FB only for Bison
NDSU
Tulsa
SMU
WSU (Shockers)
Wyoming
CSU
Air Force
North Texas
NIU
Memphis
Rice
(SDSU, griz, bobcats …)
But it’ll never happen without some kind of oversight to force the issue

Yes, I know that obviously
But they need a G5 conference nonetheless and are in the right time zone. They don't fit out east and they don't fit in the "mountain", just like NDSU
This is all purely hypothetical
I can't get excited about the CA and desert schools, not to mention Hawaii. That's my issue with MWC as it stands

Not true. A recent Wichita State Football coach made a crazy shift to coach AFC Richmond, an English Premier League Team

Well C-USA has cast the first stone! Will anything come of it? Maybe Not Right Away, but it is A Start. Hopefully all 3 conferences can come to there
Senses and decide to go with Realignment. I think more AAC teams will end up in the Big 12 or SMU & Tulsa possibly going to the Mountain West. Conference USA has financial trouble because it chose market size over geographical Rivalries and is the least financially successful. The Sunbelt is very profitable and has most of its teams within reasonable driving distance.
Liberty will soon be a Sunbelt Member and that means Another team will be needed to maintain division balance. Will someone leave another Group of 5 conference to join the Sunbelt? If ESPN does Not Renew it’s TV deals with the B1G 10 & PAC 12 they will need the G5 conferences to fill some TV slots.
The MAC & MWC are not involved in the proposed realignment and the Independent teams were not mentioned although ARMY would be a good pick up for the AAC who has previously contacted the West Point Service Academy.

Sounds like c-usa is trying really hard to get other conferences to play ball on some wife swapping of programs. Everything I have read on this says the no one else wants in. So this seems like a desperate attempt by c-usa to get out of their troubles. Right now anyway, no one is listening.

NDSU hasn't even tapped their students or aggressively hit up teammakers members or a big push like that.
FBS gives them that leverage. let's goooo

AAC takes another stab at it.
https://mobile.twitter.com/PeteThame...1akBZZTOA&s=19
If Thamel is correct, that's more schools than I thought.
So...should NDSU push for the CUSA? If that's what's available, I'd be okay with that.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Honestly, whatever gets us to FBS, I'm on board. My preference is: 1. MWC, 2. CUSA, 3. MAC
CUSA is going to pull some good FCS schools like JMU to fill their conference. Villanova would make a ton of sense with the Philly market and their national basketball name recognition.
I'm hoping this latest round of moves prompts the MWC to get aggressive, especially knowing Boise State and SDSU may bolt in a few years, and bring in NDSU and someone like Montana. At the very least, hopefully the trickle down of conferences pillaging others creates a spot at the table for NDSU to slide in.

$h!t. I'm reading all the possible chain reactions from this. None of them mention NDSU for any conference. I think we're are going to be left out of this. But congrats to JMU. They'll be fine.

NDSU to CUSA if these teams bail to AAC.
or hell, send in an Application to AAC like these guys below, make them read our resume!

@PeteThamel
Sources: The American Athletic Conference is expected examine expansion this week, with six schools expected to send applications. The AAC is expected to receive an application from – FAU, Charlotte, North Texas, UTSA, Rice and UAB this week. 1/2

Question is where the remaining Conference USA and Sunbelt teams go. Do they add teams, combine or operate as is?

That should work……of course……
Of course CUSA is the conference that just pitched the “regionalization”
concept to the AAC and Sunbelt…...
and the AAC is ‘listening’ and is expanding in Texas with 3 schools and Alabama, Florida & North Carolina with one each.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbs...e-leagues/amp/
Quote:
The letter, obtained by CBS Sports, calls conference realignment an "inflection point to reimagine a more regional, student friendly and sustainable model of for our conferences."
At least the Mountain West will have a tougher time getting those Texas schools now that they appear to be going AAC. So if the MW wants to stay the same size after Boise & San Diego State leave……especially if Colorado State & Air Force get to go also……
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
CUSA is like the Sunbelt for NDSU. It doesn’t work. This round of realignment is over for us, but there will be more in the future. TV deals, playoff expansion, etc … JMU won’t move up this time either, that’s my prediction.
Sounds like MWC hit the pause button because they couldn’t get any more TV money. Makes no sense to add teams if you don’t add money, right? They can try to lure WSU and the zags in the meantime for hoops, but as Bruin astutely points out above, moving into CST via TX just got a whole lot harder for the MWC, and the front range schools have made it clear that this is what they want.
It'll be the MWC or the MAC moving forward.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Yeah this is great, MW got the door closed on them in Texas, Conference USA is going to be desperate, MAC is...the MAC still. They'll probably get angsty and look to grow in case CUSA gets grabby.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I think JMU is gone, too many options for them. Only question is if there will be another FCS school gone.

Would love to see CUSA take NDSU, SDSU, Montana and Montana State and have north/south divisions. I guess that would put us with ODU and Marshall maybe?
...Buuuut NDSU isn't moving up, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Originally it was playoff expansion driving realignment. The SEC thing then sort of took over, but it would be odd for a conference to want to grow without more TV money. So it’s back to where we started, albeit in a changed CFB landscape. My bet is it goes to 12 teams as proposed and that will trigger more change in the near future.
This all happens at the president level, and we all know how DB feels about it. Right now, I don’t think you can know now if NDSU will ever move up. However, I would say there is more momentum in this direction than ever before. It needs to be pushed by the president though, not the AD. That's how this works apparently. I no longer see in-state forces as striving to hold this back somehow either.

If Bresciani publicly said that NDSU should stay at FCS, the rest of the state would do everything in their power to make us go FBS. I'm being sarcastic, I think.

I just don't see any of those other three schools moving up even if a conference knocked on their front door and surprised them with balloons and confetti.
