Hey Guys. It's been a while.

It's official. Due to the actions of a few, UND has become that embarrassing relative that you hope doesn't show up at the Holidays. Whether they are too stupid or just to arrogant to realize, UND has become a joke though out the United States. Unfortunately, the State of North Dakota is also becoming a joke because of it. UND has become North Dakota's version of that relative we will just call "Cousin Carl". There are a lot of wonderful people in Carl's family, but that doesn't stop everyone at gatherings from unconsciously thinking "awh damn" when Carl's vehicle pulls into the driveway. The sad thing is that this is happening to a University that has produced some of my dearest Friends and has a respectable academic reputation.

The 02/22/2012 Sport section in the Forum was the perfect representation of where UND sits at this moment. On the front page is an article suggesting that the UND AD misspoke about the the Big Sky AD concerns. Congrats on that huge victory, Nickname supporters. They are just the official "Major Concerns" expressed by Big Sky member University Presidents. These are the guys who have the power to fire the AD directors if they don't reflect official University positions. I'm so glad they took the effort to clear this up for the rest of the public. One could almost picture the smoke and mirrors while the nickname Zealots puffed their chests, raised their voices and screamed that is was really Faison that was intentionally misleading the public. However, they are probably to dumb to realize that the Forum piece doesn't buy the bull shit either.

Sadly, For UND the Forum Sports section drove home another reality. What should have been front page news, The announcement of the replacement for Gene Roebuck (one of the most successful BB coaches in college history) was relegated to the inside of the sports section. But, even less subtle was the symbolic act of the news snippet purposefully nested in the heart of the Nickname embarrassment of a story... the announcement that once again, UND has had a sporting event invitation revoked. The UND athletes have gone from the girl at the party that doesn't get asked to dance to the girl that has the invitation ripped from their hands and told to stay home because they weren't welcome at the party.

Congratulations, UND nickname supporters are as embarrassing as my Cousin Carl. From now on, UND should be referred to as the University of Carl. Unfortunately, the only thing worse than being the University of Carl is being one of the University of Carl's kids because Carl doesn't give a crap about how his behavior is effecting their life. It will only stop when EVERYONE at the party join together in a united refusal to "pull his finger". Unfortunately for the The State of North Dakota and for the University of Carl, the "Cousin Carls" of UND have packed an overnight bag. The only thing left to do is thank God that you elected to stay at the Holiday Inn and remember to hang on to your Beer so you don't have to play Russian Roulette with Carl's numerous chewing tobacco spit cups.
