Wacker and I went to Grand Forks for the Shrine Game. East beat West 21-14. We needed our football fix. Also Wacker had a relative playing for the East. We hadn't been in the Spud HOUSE since the Bison played there. It sure doesn't impress me imho. Had a Red Pepper grinder and headed back to Fargo.

I heard there were some MN players on the east team....

That is correct. However, I guess that some roster spots were added to accomodate these MN kids as not to take spots away from the ND kids.

sambini, was there any potential future Bison playing? See Bohl up there?

Why MN kids? Did I miss something here????

P.S.- I saw the boys at a Red Hawks game on Thursday night, seemed to enjoy themselves. ;)

There was some MN kids added because the east chapter of Shriners encumpasses an area into MN. At least thats the way I understood it.

The young man Blake Sczepanski from Stephen-Argyle was in the 9 man group. No Coach Bohl to be seen. Did play golf last week with Coach Bohl and Coach Vigen AT THE LINKS FO NORTH DAKOTA. Great time++

Thats stupid. They should be playing for MN. Not to be selfish, infact I am feeling sorry for the MN kids that have to play in another states game and not their own. ;)

I don't know why they had about 5-6 western Minnesota kids playing. Not enough North Dakota kids to play?

Were they from East Grand Forks maybe? Sad, if it is because of a lack of ND players. When I played, guys would have killed to have been able to play in that game. ;)

Recap:

Brekken’s TD secures victory (http://www.in-forum.com/Sports/articles/172617)

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The end zone wasn’t the primary thing on Cody Brekken’s mind. Instead, it was the humiliation factor.
“I was thinking (as the pass came) that if I dropped this one, no way I’ll ever live it down,” Brekken said.

Brekken’s hands came through. He hauled in a Rob Gibson pass for a 47-yard touchdown with 34 seconds remaining, breaking a 14-all tie. Seth Schmitz kicked the extra point and the East 11-man team beat the West 21-14 in the annual North Dakota Shrine Bowl on Saturday in Grand Forks’ Alerus Center............

More Minnesota players invited (http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=172132&section=Sports)

Provo is one of three Minnesotans on the 11-man West roster. Twelve Minnesotans were selected for the four rosters, although only 10 accepted invitations to play.

“The footprints of our temple – the El Zagal Temple in Fargo and the Kem Temple in Grand Forks – go into parts of Minnesota,” said Matt Sturlaugson, chairman of the El Zagal football committee. “We try to get a few players from those footprints.”

This is the second year Minnesota kids have been included.

“We’re not taking away spots from kids from North Dakota. We added three spots for Minnesota kids,” Sturlaugson said. “And they’re all from an area close to North Dakota.”

Cooper is the QB the Bison missed out on.
Offered a walk on spot. He's got a gun.
Oh Well! Never know now, going to
Dickinson.

I'm pretty sure that part of the reason that they have started including some Minnesota kids for the game is to increase the attendance and interest locally. So hopefully it's a good thing for everyone and raises even more money for the Shriners.

And the Shriners take care of kids in this part of Minnesota also.
