Villanova was on something like a 2 week barnstorming tour that year. Also, I think it was the first year of the BSA and I think there was a connection between head coaches.

Thanks for the info. A little piece of college history I was not aware of. ;)

It was a three week road trip which included both NDSU and UND. NDSU was the final game before they went home. Coach Belk knew Villanova coach Jack Kraft and saw that the Wildcats were headed back from a tourney in Hawaii. Porter didn't have a very good game that night(11 points - probably due to the brutal schedule and the fact they pulled into town just before midnight), but Villanova added to a 6 point lead at halftime to win 94-61. If you have an In-Forum PressPass, you can read a Kolpack article about the subject named "Coach recalls '71 game" published in the Dec 8, 2006 paper.

Und played them to a 2 pt. loss if my memory serves me right. Howard Porter barely warmed up. He was an all-american and just sat on the bench watching warmups.
