Yeah, she is a great runner. She went to New Mexica I believe to run a national event. She also is top in the state in cross country and is just, like you said, an unbelievable runner. Plus she has a 4.0 in school and has a great personality.

Laure is not only close to setting the 800 state record, but I heard on the radio that she holds the school records in the 100, 200, 400, and of course the 800. I'm not sure about the 1600 and the 3200, but there a possibility as well.

Not too shaby.

I wasn't sure since she won state cross country. If she ran them, she'd probably set those records too.

Does anyone know how many events an individual can run in at the state meet?

Laura is a rare combination of speed and endurance. From the 100 to the 3200, I dont think their is anybody in the state who can touch her. I think she will try to duplicate her wins from last year at the state meet in the 100,200,400, and 800 meters. She was the first person to ever accomplish that, and she was an 8th grader!!

My sense of humor comes across better in person, although my wife will tell you that I'm a complete moron face-to-face too. I said her time is "only a minute faster than I could run it in", which means my 32 year-old, unathletic, slightly overweight body could run it in just over 3 minutes, which, of course is a terrible 800 meter time. My 18 year-old, unathletic, not-as-much overweight body could maybe run it in about 2:30, although that's stretching it. I was simply trying to pay her a huge compliment by making a self-deprecating joke about myself, which obviously did not come across well on a message board.
So, for the record, I think Roesler's time is freakin' amazing for a high school girl (or boy, for that matter). I think it's going to be extremely difficult to get her to stay in Fargo and run track for the Bison.

Maybe Laura would want to put NDSU on the track & field MAP, D1 style.

seriously, it's an individual sport, she would get more national press if she was "the darling from small D1 NDSU!" as opposed to #3 runner at Florida, USC, etc.

just my 2 thoughts, I think that would be a bigger story for her if she went to NDSU and DESTROYED the big boys!! (or girls!)

Well, that could be a possibility but probably not. She wants to live in either California or Florida and go to college there. Anywhere she does go she will be a track star. She will obviously take over the spot of most decorated high school athletes in ND (with IMO Liza Wischer holding the spot now. Liza is going to play tennis at Iowa State next year.)

It also looks like she improved on her 400 time clocking in at 55.42 in the Relays down in Sioux Falls. WOW!!

It wasn't in the link but the paper listed her times in all the 4 events that she has won in 8th grade and as a freshman. Her times currenlty rank in the top ten all time in the state of ND. 8th fastest in the 100, 3rd in the 200, 1st in the 400 and 2nd in the 800 to 2 time Florida Gator All-American Becky Wells. Pretty rarified air for a Sophmore who appears to be getting faster!

Seriously, has there ever been a local athlete that was ranked #16 or better on the US mens or womens lists?

She is only a 10th grader, one has to wonder how her potential will project through college and into her prime years especially when she has the chance to train in a better climate.

Could she have more potential if she moved up to the 1500m?

It's hard to say. She has been in some tight battles for the CC title. South won't move her into the distance, IMO. They like her 40 pts. and she's proven that the 100,200,400 & 800 are doable at state.

Who know's what here ceiling is? I'm sure a lot of track experts have been waiting for her to level off as she got older and "matures". I've seen a lot of fast 8th graders platteau, but she's just improving at an incredible pace. It would be interesting to hear what her goals are. Sub 2:00? If so we'll see her in 2012.

Laura and her coach were on 740 The Fan today with Dan Hammer. I can say that both are absolute class acts and Laura will definetely represent Fargo well when she is evantually in the Olympics. Laura is one of the most soft spoken people I've come across. I told her that she should get used to being in studio because she's going to be here a lot in the future and all she could do is smile. She is definately a girl with a bright future ahead of her with a good head on her shoulders and I can't wait to watch her succeed in the future.

They're in the same heat. Maybe they can work off each other. Anybody going to put it on youtube? They might just show the endings of the 800m heats if they don't show the entire races.

Nice find gold swan!! Looks like they have a chance. There are 4 runners with times faster than Laura R, but were talking less then a sec seperating the 2nd from her so anything is possible. The fastest 800 runner in the country is in their heat, leaving from lane 10, yuck.

Is a faster runner in an outside lane a good or bad thing?

Good Luck Lauras!!!!

no, it was pretty much the 5,000 mens and 10,000 womens final live i believe. then they showed the 100m womens 3 quarters. Only on for an hour and the longer races pretty much took that time up....and some other mens events like shot put, hurdles. standard

That was a great article in SI.com. I'm a little ticked off, and maybe some of the people in Bis/Man or Minot can help me that read their respective papers more than I do. Over the weekend while the trials were going on, through today, I'd kind of been browsing the sports sections in the Minot Daily and the Bismarck Tribune looking for any information on the 2 Laura(s). Never saw a word! Maybe it was buried on the back of the sports page in some obscure title, but I didn't see anything. What gives with that!:ranting:

What, we have so many runners from ND or going to school at one of the ND Universities that are competing in the Olympic trials that it isn't even news anymore? Laura Roesler could make the NY Times, LA Times and SI.com, but most of the ND newspapers, other than the Forum barely give her even a mention???? If someone else saw something and I just missed it, then I stand corrected.

Not sure where to put this, so I guess this is as good as any. Looks like ND has another great runner, only this time she's from Minot. From Terry V's Twitter:

Minot soph. Morgan Milbrath breaks a stadium record in the 400 at the Howard Wood Relays, winning the girls special event in 53.98.

Thus far this spring during her first outdoor season at the University of Oregon:

Roesler's best 400 meter time at Oregon: 54.63 seconds (5th best time on the team for this season * )

* Milbrath's 53.98 at the Howard Wood Relays would put her behind only 1 Oregon Ducks' runner this spring at 400 meters.

Roesler's PR at South High: 53.25.

Roesler's best 800 meter time at Oregon: 2:05.5. (2nd best on the team for this season)

Roesler's PR as a high schooler: 2:03.08.
