- EML 161 will be renovated to accommodate an expanded day care that is located in the lower level of EML; project is scheduled for completion near the end of June

- FLC north wall of the auditorium will be excavated to provide better foundation support; last year structural cracks were identified in the auditorium walls

- Greenhouse for trans-genic research will begin the design process shortly; final location has not been determined, but it will be west of 18th Street and south of the Safety Office; ground breaking is anticipated for spring 2008

- Grounds/landscaping will continue to be a focus; the hanging baskets will continue to expand; the football practice field be rejuvenated

- Lincoln Mutual Building design continues; this renovation will accommodate the re-location of Architecture and Landscape Architecture to downtown; a construction start has not been identified

- Memorial Union addition/renovation project continues (its been two years so far) with completion of the second floor meeting rooms and west entrance scheduled for the end of May; most of the remaining work will be complete before the beginning of fall semester (2007) and this includes the Group Decision Center, but there will be some remaining work to be accomplished later in the fall; the new Bison Connection is expected to open in October

- Music Education and Research II will have new exterior signage installed to better identify the buildings and arrival to the NDSU campus for our guests

- Pioneer Mutual Building will begin renovation in June for the College of Business and Agribusiness and Applied Economics; completion is schedule for January or July 2009

- Parking lot construction will take place in T2, HR-east and Visitor/Pay; these efforts will start May 14th and the lots will be closed; HR-east will be complete by July 10th to accommodate the Northern League All-star game which is being hosted by the Redhawks this year; the other lots will be complete in mid-August; there will be changes to the Visitor/Pay Lot with details coming later in the summer

- Residence Dining Center will have a new sanitary sewer service (both internal and external) installed on the north end of the building

- 17th Ave North will be replaced from University Drive to Albrecht Blvd; it will include new water, natural gas and sewer lines, curb/gutter, street lighting, road surface and sidewalks ( in addition, the sidewalk on the south side of the street will extend from Albrecht Blvd. to 18th Street to connect to the bike/pedestrian trail installed a couple of years ago by the City of Fargo); the work will start May 14th and be complete early August; accommodations will be made for the Fargo Marathon, Rib Fest, USA Wrestling and other events that will be taking place this summer at BSA and FargoDome

- Wellness Center addition will be complete in June and renovation of the existing locker rooms to accommodate an expanded day care facility will start with completion expected by the end of August

- West Dining Center chiller replacement will start shortly; the new chiller will be located south of Seim Hall

- The 12th Ave. ND DOT project will be start summer 2008 and continue into 2009 for the bridge portion. The bids for the project will be received November 18, 2007 with a construction start early April. All of 12th Ave will be closed to east/west traffic from 10th St. to 18 St. with detours marked. There will be some vehicle/pedestrian crossing points and these will vary as the project progresses. The plan is to have the new 12th Ave open from 10th St. to 18th St. by the beginning of fall semester 2008. This will be very disruptive, but in the end we will have an opportunity to drive on a nice smooth street that will have many aesthetic attributes.

Even though the following projects are not NDSU projects, they will have an impact on the campus. There are three apartment/retail complexes in the planning and city approval stages that will be along 12th Ave. The first one, which will start soon if final approval is given May 7th by the city commission, will be west of Barrett St. across from Askanase. The three rental properties will be torn down and a 3-story apartment building with retail space on the ground floor will be constructed with completion scheduled for September or October 2007. The other two projects are still early in their process, but one will on the west side of 17th St. south of 12th Ave and the other will be where University Motors is currently located when they move to their new location. All these projects will greatly enhance the perimeter of the campus.

Are the NDSU Architecture Students getting a chance to help do any design?

Don't know, but I doubt it. We already had prints as part of a bid package, so it would appear they're already finalized.

I'm glad they are replacing that road between the Dome and BSA. It is very rough.

Gee, maybe they will lower the speed limit from 15 to 10 MPH and raise the fine for speeding on it to help pay for it :) :) :)
