I heard last week that UNC is having dire Financial problems. Anyone else have anymore information on this. This came from an ex-media person who is pretty knowlegeable and he mentioned some there were even pushing to move the school back to DII. I'd be interested to hear from some UNC folks as to the validity of that information. Of course if it is true I can't imagine they would be to public about it other then the attempts to correct the $$ problems through soliciting alum ect. If it is in fact true it begs the question about und and their proposed move since they are already running a defecit. Interesting stuff.

If things were that dire, how could they have moved up? Where did they think the $$$$ was going to come from?

That might be a good thing for UND if they do.

Hopefully we will get into the Mid Con and that will be established, and then if UNC must drop from the Big Sky, they can go ahead and add UND.

Everyone is happy!

I know that the UNC students voted for a fee increase to support the upgrading of facilities, and I also think that they voted for a fee increase to support the athletic dept also. Most likely the fee increase is a small piece of the increase in funding required.

I think the BSC would have been more carefull when financially qualifying UNC. Didnt the go through this with Northwood?

One would think the would have considered all the funding issues, but it is interesting stuff if the rumor is true. It just highlights the $$$$ problems that und and the posters so desperately want to deny or hide. If in fact UNC was to come out with an announcement about money issues it's got to worry the BSC folks given that they turned down two institutions that are progressing much faster then UNC. Is UNC even at the full scholarship level yet? Would be interesting to see what the next budget at UNC looks like. :-?

Remember folks, all we have so far is a "I heard". No facts or sources to back it up. I'm not saying its not true, but lets not get all crazy over a little rumor.

Sounds like wishfull thinking more than any basis in reality. *

The real rumor is they are merging with CU and CSU to become the University of Colorado Northern State University Bufframalopes and they are entering the NFL.

But it anyone is interested in the actual situation please see the link below. *There was a budget crunch not unlike many schools face in today's economy, however, nothing out of the ordinary for the athletic department just the standard issues which most programs face looking to be competive in a move up.

Scholarship wise they will be at 57 in '06 and 63 in '07. *

Hey its not wishful thinking for me. I have no problems with UNC. I'm just telling you what I heard directly from a person who used to work in the media. He has no axe to grind or any reason to start a rumor, he was just telling me what he heard from someone at UNC. Take it for what its worth, as I stated in my original post I was just looking to confirm if anyone else has heard similar.

I hate to give BBJR - or whatever-the-hell he wants to be called - but you do realize South Dakota has something like this already??? :o It's called USDSU. It's in Sioux Falls and is a combination of USD, SDSU, Dakota St U and Northern St U. Not combined athletics -sorry Charlie errrr Buffalo Chip - but anything from an AA to a PhD degree in a limited number of academic programs.
