As you know, SDSU's men's basketball program has had to endure nearly every bad thing imagineable the past two seasons, ranging from transfers/defections; injuries; legal problems etc. It now appears that just maybe, the corner has been turned.

For those of you who watched NDSU and SDSU play last year, you'll recall 6-7 Ben Beran being one of the top players for SDSU. His father passed away under tragic circumstances (stemming from auto accident) and Ben decided he wouldn't go out this year. He's a good student and remained in school. You'll also recognize the name Mo Berte, a 6-8 JC transfer who showed great promise but had his 05-06 season cut short over the Christmas break because he was implicated in the sexual assault case (another player faced the more serious charges and was acquitted at trial; less serious charges against Berte were then dismissed).

Both have a year of eligibility left...Berte will have to get cleared with the NCAA. It sounds like Berte will be back on the team next year assuming NCAA clearance. Beran is likely...he's a great kid and everyone is hopeful.

Nagy talked to the SDSU beat reporter at the SF Argus and the reporter commented in his blog today: http://blogs.argusleadermedia.com/sports/

We're actually getting encouraging news in Rabbitland!

I had heard that he is thinking about returning but did not hear that his return was imminent. Any more news on this????

Coach Nagy spoke at the Sioux Empire Staters luncheon today and said that Ben is practicing with the team now and will play with them next season. He also stated that it looks like they will go the JUCO route with two schollies for next year for 2 main reasons: a) to even out the schollies for each year, and b) to try and get a low post presence for the team.

Go State! :)
