SDSU is in the mix of those being considered for the post-season WNIT, according to a story just posted in the Argus Leader (I saw this first on SDSU message board posted by 2002jack). Here's the link:

http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070212/SPORTS/70212047

SDSU women drilled Fort Wayne the other night, 103-51 with the bench getting a lot of playing time (11 players scored). Vogel put in 32.

Big congrats, and this great news for both our programs. Short of an inconceivable collapse, I think we all know that your ladies deserve to be in the NCAA tourney. But since that isn't an option, run those other WNIT teams into the ground and open the door for our men next year.

and just because I used the magic word...
Vizzini: He didn't fall? INCONCEIVABLE.
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I wonder if there is any chance that SDSU would host a first round game in Brookings?

I think there is an outside chance. First, of course, we have to get invited. Then I think the organizers have criteria they consider in determining which team plays at home. I'm not well enough informed to state anything you can rely on...I understand attendance is important and SDSU will be okay in that category: the women average more than 2,100 a contest and that will bump up a little in the final few games (including the NDSU rematch which is sure to have a huge crowd).

The Argus Leader had a story on attendance for Jackrabbit women. Here's the link:

If SDSU does not get an invite, it would be an outrage!

You better get a home game with attendance like that >:(. My cousin's aunt (other side of the family) is the head coach at a Carolina school that made the Women's NIT and hosted a 1st round game. He went and said there were about 250 people there. ;D ;D ;D

USA TODAY story/column about women's post-season, page 4 (today's paper), responds to the question: What's the best team that won't get an NCAA bid this season? The response:

"It could be South Dakota State, the 2003 Division II champion making the transition to Division Iand ineligible for an NCAA bid this season. The Jackrabbits (18-5) have beaten Middle Tennessee State,Southern Cal,Virginia,Kansas,Colorado,Alabama, and Minnesota. They should get a WNIT bid."

Nice exposure. In a way, similar to the well-deserved recognition NDSU's football team received this past season.

Are there any WNIT games televised?? Is the championship game on The U or The Deuce, perhaps??

Missouri State played and won the WNIT a few seasons ago. They play at whoever has the best attendance thus we played every game on our home court bc the old people of Springfield love chick ball.

I don't think its a rule, but it definitely plays into consideration.

Heck, I'd consider going down to Brookings for a WNIT game.

SDSU fans are anxiously awaiting word this evening on whether we're in the WNIT (all but certain), whether we get a first-round bye because of our record, and whether we're going to host games (we bid on all of them). We should know by 10:00 p.m.

Yep, y'all killed the SDSUfans.com forum software. The provider turned the process off . . . probably because of the same performance problems they ran into over here at Bisonville. The blog side of SDSUFans.com is still up however, as long as you guys don't refresh every five seconds it should be OK . . .

I'll see what I can do about having our hosting provider turn the forum back on.
