NDSU will face #25 Pennsylvania at the Virginia Duals on friday-
North Dakota State Wrestling Team Opens Up Virginia Duals Against No. 25 Penn (http://www.gobison.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=2400&ATCLID=224738)

Bucky shot straight from the hip at the press conference (highlights on the WDAY 6:00 sports) and stated (paraphrased, but pretty accurate) that he would much rather have the team face a top 25 team than wrestle in the lower bracket at the Virginina Duals. He said wrestling in the lower bracket is like wrestling a cripple. SDSU won the lower bracket last year, and NDSU beat them 30-something to 6. SDSU is wrestling in the lower bracket again this year. ;D

Lower bracket? *What are they talking about? *Any bracket that features something called Apprentice School has to be the top bracket. *

Apprentice School is coached by Donald Trump and that Omerosa is a tough pin. *Also, when they beat you their wrestler has the privilege of point at you and saying "you're fired." *

Guess you've got that right about wrestling cripples. SDSU won their first match 44-0. I don't really know how thats worth a trip.

Bison lose 38-3 with Mike Maresh the linebacker for the Bison football team recording the only Bison win. He must be a heck of a wrestler to pick it up again that quickly.

Looks like they dropped the afternoon dual to Virginia in the Consolation Bracket 22-12. http://www.intermatwrestle.com/news/newsdisplay.aspx?ID=3552 Maresh wins another decision in HWT.

WOW. What an athlete to be able to wrestle that well, that quickly. I don't know a thing about wrestling but I would think it would be very hard to gain the stamina that quickly.

Also I've got to think he is a small Hwt. since his football weight is 225.

The Forum article said he was up to 245 now. I don't know if he'll play at that weight in football but he said he ate alot to gain the weight.

They wrestled them tonight and picked up the win 19-16. Mike Marresh went undefeated for the Bison today. They finished the meet 1-2.

from GoBison.com

The match came down to the heavyweight bout where NDSU's Mike Maresh defeated John Buck 3-2, giving the Bison the 19-16 victory. Maresh, wrestling in his first collegiate tournament, was the only Bison to finish the day with an undefeated record.

I think he's 3-0 now.

Could he be moved to defensive end? Seems like a good fit with his size and quickness, and with our wealth of talent at linebacker.

I've been thinking this for a year. I would absolutely love to see Maresh at DE. He would probably be the most athletic DE to ever play for the Bison. Of course, if he wasn't receptive to the idea it wouldn't work out.

Ask Gus about it?

There is no doubt he has the athletic ability to play Defensive End, but to take a kid who started all 11 games as a freshman at linebacker and move him down to the defensive line puts two new players in the starting lineup at the linebacker position, and he still would be playing out of position. I think his talent and ability as a linebacker outweighs the upside for him as a defensive end. He will have the ability to make more plays at the linebacker position, especially in our defense, which he surely will. Just my two cents.

If he can keep his quickness and speed at a little bit heavier weight that might even make him a better linebacker by helping with durability since he will be able to deliver a bigger blow.

28 thanks for your insight. Are getting ready to play baseball this spring?

SUILB#28

Unfortunately not. I played last spring with a bone chip and a torn labrum in my shoulder, and was going to have surgery on it after the football season (not the most comfortable thing in the world). But, I had to have my knee fixed first, so I am going to take a medical redshirt this spring. I am having the shoulder fixed in a couple of weeks, and will play out my last two years of eligibility for baseball while in grad school here. I just can't leave ;D
