Four New Recruits
North Dakota State head women’s soccer coach Pete Cuadrado announced the signings of four student-athletes that will play soccer and continue their education at North Dakota State in 2005. The Herd landed four prep standouts, including two goalies. Holly Ramaeker from Omaho, Neb., Megan Carrica from Chaska, Minn., Stacey Howell from Edmonton, Alberta, and Karli Kopietz from Champlin Park, Minn., make up the 2005 recruiting class.

“In terms of recruiting we had some things the team needed to fill. We needed depth, especially at the goalie position. The first girl we signed was Karli Kopietz. She’s actually a transfer from the University of Minnesota. She’s played two years at the big time level and was voted the team’s defensive MVP her freshmen year,” Cuadrado said.

The Bison landed a recruiting coup, so to speak, with the signing of Stacey Howell. Howell had an offer on the table from the University of Tennessee as well as North Dakota State. “When we tell people her final decision was between us and Tennessee it’s impressive. They won the SEC this year and finished 4th in the country. To say we got someone who had an offer from Tennessee to come here is neat and a big coup for us,” Cuadrado said.

Cuadrado added, “We’d still like to have one or two more recruits in the future that we’re still working on, but this is a great start. We definitely addressed our team needs right now.”

Schedule
The biggest change, perhaps, for the Bison comes in terms of their schedule. Next fall the Bison have eight homes games, with only two opponents not among the Division I ranks. “This schedule is a lot tougher than the past years. It’s a step up for us in scheduling and recruiting. We play the top two teams in the Missouri Valley, we play both Weber State and Montana, who played in the Big Sky championship this year,” Cuadrado said. Other scheduled road games include Creighton, Iowa, Iowa State, South Dakota State, Nebraska-Omaha.

Cuadrado guided the Bison to a 5-11-1 record in NDSU’s first season of Division I soccer in 2004.

Seems like a decent schedule to me. It will take a few years to get more to travel to Fargo.

What returning players are going to get tossed on the scrap heap this year?

Use and abuse the players and then toss them aside like yesterday's underwear. There's no sense of loyalty with that program.

Who's Hot, Who's Not: North Dakota State brought in solid recruits for a program in just its second year of Division 1 play. Most all others fall into the "not hot" or "too new to D1" category.

Seven student-athletes make up the 2005 Bison recruiting class: Becky Iwanicki (Calgary, Alberta), Nicole Rand (Plymouth, Minn.), Holly Ramaeker (Omaha, Neb.), Megan Carrica (Chaska, Minn.), Stacey Howell (Edmonton, Alberta), Karli Kopietz (Champlin Park, Minn.) and Jestina Orlando (Park Ridge, Ill.).

OC (or clueless)- get your facts straight. They are graduating 6 seniors this year more than any other year in the programs 10 year history with 6 more juniors right behind that class. And he hasn't cut anyone in 2 years. Keep up the good work!

2006 Soccer Recruits Press Conference

3 from SD and 2 from MN...multi-sport athletes that excelled in soccer and were recruited by other DI schools

Lot less fanfare than the football signees, but another great job by Coach Cuadrado and his staff to help put Bison soccer on the national map.

Pete Cuadrado will continue to build up this program at NDSU and with the soccer conference established for this fall, they should have another very good year.

Here is the list of soccer recruits from the gobison site.
I talked to someone I work with who has been involved for many years with soccer in the Sioux Falls area. He recognized a few of the recruits and commented they are all very good athletes. In particular he said Ashley Dement is a great athlete and an impact player who can change the outcome of a game. Sounds like an excellent group of soccer recruits. Congratuations to coach Cuadrado and the entire team. Go Bison.

Flying under the radar...

The Bison are lucky to hold onto Coach Cuadrado. He is staying at NDSU despite being offered the Ball State head coaching job. Their coach left to head the Iowa program.

Bison recruiting class ranked #2 in the United Soccer Conference. Jacks #3.

"In their short time in Division I, NDSU and SDSU are both recruiting nicely and will move quickly to the top of this league before their schools find permanent conference affiliation."
