Bison vs Gophers

The softball team will play a double header against the Gophers Thurs April 14th at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium near the U of M campus. Game times are 4pm and 6pm. The NDSU Alumni Assn will have a hospitality tent at the stadium.

Anyone know how good or bad the Lady Gophers are? What's their record?

The Gophers record is 18-17.

Sports at 6 reported that the Bison had a 2-0 lead but ended up losing to the Gophers 3-2 in game 1. Must have been a good game!

I just got home from the first game. Each team had a 2 run homer, but the Gophers had more base runners and managed to win a close one.

The crowd was about 50/50 Bison/Gopher fans.

WOW!! that must have been an awesome atmosphere!! I'll bet they almost thought of opening the hot dog stand for that one! GOD!! DI is great!! If they only get 18,800 more next season they might have something fans want to see!! Like last years WCHA Final Five Championship at the X - WHICH - incidentally, had 19.200 (largest crowd EVER) for a conference hockey game...oh sorry, forgot, hockey is a "minor" sport...silly me...I know a DIVISION ONE softball matchup* must be MUCH more important!!! (AND maybe we can look forward to getting our ASS handed to us in FB for at least a year or two - THAT'S COOL!)

Hockey is a minor sport in DI world, less that 20 DI athletic programs sponsor the sport! Number of programs indicate interest, not fans at one game!!

Great article in the Forum about the Bison vs. Gohpers game. I like the quote by the Gophers coach

"First of all, it's exciting that they've gone Division I," Gophers coach John Anderson said. "It adds more opportunity for young people in this part of the country to play Division I baseball and it gives us more competition."

That is what this move to division I is all about.

Seriously impressed with the effort out of the Bison squad. The Gophers are an above average team and the Bison put forth a great effort. The Bison are young and will only get better. Does anyone know if the NDSU was talking to Jake Marto? I know he has decided to play hockey, but just wondering if they were showing any interest in a local baseball talent that is good enough to compete at the D-I level and way to good to play for the Sioux.
