The Bison lost to Minnesota 5-4 earlier in the year in a game in which they out-hit the Gophers 8-3. *There was a record crowd out last year for the Gopher game at Newman, so let's pack it in and come out with a "W." Go Bison.

Looks like NDSU is starting Jake Laber vs. Minnesota. If I remember correctly he flat out dealt for 3-4 innings of relief against the Gophers at Newman last year, so hopefully he can build on that and a good outing at Valpo over the weekend (6IP, 2ER, 8K) and come out and pitch like I know he can and keep the Bison in it. Should be a good game.

Kyle Carr from Minot is pitching today for the Goophers. Nice wrinkle to add some extra incentive and hopefully extra attendance. Too bad that it wasn't nicer today - windy and only about 55 degrees.

I think NDSU hit KYLE pretty good down at the dome..

the kid's real smooth in his delivery... wish he was at NDSU!!!

Congrats to the Bison squad and to Jake Laber for throwing like I think we all know he can. I'm sorry I couldn't be there, but a nice win for the program in front of the home crowd.

Well, based on the recent history of the series (I believe SDSU is something like 8-1 over this year and last) I guess I'd say I'm hoping NDSU can manage a split. But back to the moment at hand, we beat Minnesota, which I think can be considered a significant milestone for this program. Granted, this is only our 7th win of the season, but still a big win and I just wish I could have been there.

Congratulations on the big win guys. I sure like beating Minnesota. Maybe we'll get them in football and basketball next year too. :D

SDSU plays in pretty much a little league field in Brookings. From what I've seen, they can't do much unless they have a really, really short porch in left. They're not gonna have that in Fargo.

Nice work guys. I tip my cap to you. The season is not over so keep it up and why not sweep SDSU, you owe them big time from the past 2 seasons (1-8? come on). they can't be that much better than you and you have home field. Finish at least 5-3 in the last 8 games, if not better. Get it done.

We have 20 wins on the season so far and half of those wins have been on the road. *Try again. *::)

Go Jackrabbits! *:)

P.S. *You will be happy to learn that we are putting up a new scoreboard and moving the left and center fenses back 15 feet. *Funny but haven't the Bison been playing us in that same "little league" park and have lost 7 of 8.

Acctually SDSU has won 8 of 9 over the past two seasons ( 4 of 4 in Brookings in '05, 1 of 1 in Fargo in '05, 3 of 4 in Brookings in '06).

Go Jackrabbits! *:)

good call 89rabbit. *both teams play on the same field.

I remember scoring about 30 or so runs in a DH there in '04. *It is ridiculous how short it is but both teams play on it. *Center needs to be moved back at least 25 ft and left/right probably 15-20.

Either way it is good to see that SDSU has been winning games. *Good for the area and something for the Bison to shoot for. *This is a big weekend for the Herd

GO BISON!!

Right field was moved back in '05.

Right field is 345 and right center is 402 in brookings. Center is a joke at 372, but will be moved. it was 425 at old Huether field.

True, both teams play there. Just saying a lot of the "pop fly" home runs that went out a couple weeks ago will be outs in Fargo. Both teams put a bunch out to left that weekend, but seems like that's where 75% of the SDSU runs came from.

Jeffdaryl3rd
05-04-2006, 10:11 PM
Actually, it was 3 of 3 in Brookings and 2 of 2 in Fargo in '05, unless you are counting the forfeit in Fargo as a win, which I'm not.

I see Gophers swept Northwestern last weekend.. Bison must've pissed them off to get them on a roll!!

I CANT EMPHASIZE HOW BIG A WIN THAT WAS FOR THE NDSU PROGRAM!!!!!!

On a scale of baseball vs basketball.. it has to rank close to the wisconsin bball win!

GO BISON!! win that INDEPENDENT CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Jeffdaryl3rd

Northwestern isn't a great baseball program. One of my old coaches has a son on that team and he'd be the first person to tell you he's not there because they're competitive in the Big Ten. As far as this win being on a magnitude with the Wisconsin win, I'd have to disagree. The basketball team beat Wisconsin when they were a top 15 team, and this year has been real up and down for the Gophers. They are 24-23 (11-13 in Big Ten), so not quite the team they usually are. Still, a huge win for the Bison baseball program.
