If I'm reading this article (http://www.runnersweb.com/running/news/rw_news_20040627_Invaders.html) right, Kinsey Coles has qualified for the Olympic Trials. She ran the 800 in 2:04:54.

To put that into perspective: that time would have won the 2004 Big 10 outdoor title by 2.5 seconds.

Wow. That's cruisin'. I saw her running near the NDSU campus awhile ago. She wasn't messing around. That would be amazing to run around town like that.

According to gobison.com, Kinsey Coles has provisionally qualified, not automatically qualified like the article I posted before implied.

I checked the best times nationally and Coles might have posted one of the top 30 times in the nation this year. The top 800 runner has four times in the top 5 including the nation's best of 1:58 - which is still much slower than the WR of 1:53 (holy cow!).

There will be a feature on Kinsey Coles on the 10:00 WDAY news this evening for those interested.

Edit-It was on the 6:00 WDAY sports.

Jeff Kolpack was up late last night and did a story on Amanda Thieschafer's possible entry into the Olympic Trials.

Thieschafer's wait worth it

The gist of things is that she and Kinsey are flying out to Sacramento and Amanda might be competing in the triple jump. Very cool.

Don't forget about another Bison (although not a current student-athlete)- Steve Keller will be making the trip for the decathlon

Yeah, they really all deserve their own topic.

How about Thieschafer - the announcement saying she qualified for the Olympic Trials came on the same day as the announcement saying she earned a post-graduate scholarship from the NCAA. Quite a day.

Saw in the forum this morning that she didn't make the cut... too bad, but to be in the position to have a shot is a hell of an accomplishment.
