Weston Leutz has given NDSU a verbal commitment for football track! The Forum gets the scoopage.

Holy cow, can you imagine how good a foundation NDSU's track team would have if NDSU managed to get a commitment from Blake Bowers too! For those of you who don't follow ND track, Bowers holds the North Dakota state record in the 400 and won the 200 and 800 too.

Sorry, after rereading, I don't see any mention of football other than his high school coach was a Bison FB player. I believe he committed for track.

The article isn't exactly clear, but I think it was a football commitment - if it's just for track, that'd be fine by me though :)

I just figured it was a football deal because it looked like Tim Jacobsen, his HS coach, said that he hoped Weston would continue with track his senior year and college - depends on what "it" means in the following quote from Jacobsen:

His family is passionate about track. That’s a big reason why he’s accomplished what he has. Hopefully he’ll continue it during his senior year and then college.

The commitment was for track. The comment about continuing during his senior year and college was in reference to his success.

Regardless of the sport, he is one of the premier athletes in the state.

Weston Leutz is a stud who will do very well at NDSU as a decathlete.

He is one of top decathalon athletes in the country.

He is one of top decathalon athletes in the country.

I said it before, but I think that he will be NDSU's first Division I National Champion. He is very strong in the sprints, jumps, and pole vault, but he really needs to work on his throws. If he takes care of the very few weaknesses that he has he will be flirting with 8000 points before he graduates.

If you ask Lars how well he thinks he'll do, he just smiles and gives the very non-specific comment, "good things" which is a typical Lars answer.

Saw Leutz run the 300 and 110 on the first day of the state meet, made the rest of the field look just silly. This guy is going to be a special one for The Heard.

Leutz had a good state meet, considering the weather. Sam Larson from Jamestown won the 800,1600, and 3200! Lets welcome him to NDSU also!!! Lars gets er done!

Is Larson more than likely coming to NDSU to run?

Larson and Leutz were the top two ND recruits this year. Both of these guys could have gone just about anywhere in the country they wanted. Great recuits for Lars and NDSU!

Man, too bad - didn't Leutz break the state record in the 110 hurdles last year too only to have it nullified by too much wind?

It'd be nice to have a state meet without the big wind. Either that or have some other meets where state records can be set.

I always thought the current State records should be called State Meet Records. A lot of great athletes have been denied State records because of wind and weather. The Bismarck High School track website has an all time top ten list with the top times and distances ever recorded in the state. It is very accurate, but unnofficial.

Let's hope NDSU can nab Joash Osoro from Bismarck St. Mary's in two years. One of the best long distance runners in the state, take that back the region, maybe even the country. Already being recruited by some of the top programs in the country. http://www.dyestat.com//?pg=us2007XCIntervalSessionsInterSes9JOsoroND

In November he won the Nike Heartland Region Meet in Sioux Falls, which consists of teams from North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska. And he finished 18th at the 2007 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships
