Bison put the finishing touches on a 25-1 season with a win over Grand Canyon State. The victory was also the last for Bison seniors Leah Klabo, Amanda Krenz and Lacey Johnson.

The Bison have a great core returning next year. It all starts with Katie Lorenz. I think she is the most complete pg NDSU has ever had. She knows when to take over a game and has the chutzpah to do so. She's already in the 1000 pt. club and #1 in career Ft PERCENTAGE. She has a good chance of becoming #2 on the Bison's career 3 pt. shot made list and is already top 5 in career assists and top 10 in career steals. This one is special.

Kayla Dahlen emerged as a solid player this year. She has a very good long range stroke and is a proficient defender. It will be fun to watch her and her sister continue to grow next year.

True frosh Brenda Slyt really brought it at the end of the season. In the SDSU game she kept the Bison in it with her long range shooting. Against Grand Canyon she went 4 for 4. Plus she's got the height to rebound and play tough defense.

Lisa Bue is another true frosh who should be able to contribute. She's a slasher type player who knows no fear and always seems to be around the ball. She'll provide some great minutes in the backcourt as the BIson go to a tougher schedule.

Danni Heintzelman will play Power Forward and she has the range to draw her defender away from the basket. She played stellar when given the opportunity the past two years, next year she'll get the starting nod.

Brandi Gibbs will be the starting post. Despite playing behind Leah this year, Brandi still was able to score in double figures and lead the team in blocked shots. Next year will be her chance to really shine.

Amanda Giordat will return from an ACL injury and she'll be pegged to spell Katie relief at the point position. Ali Sonstelie will return to the court after red-shirting and be counted on to help out in the paint. Amy will most likely add 1 or 2 additional posts and I think they might be in the form of transfers into the program.

What about the Hanson girl?

I don't know if ALi is hurt or with the team. She hasn't played at all. Maybe she red shirted as well.

Hanson was a medical redhirt this year

Thanks for the update. I know they wanted to redshirt her her frosh year but injuries to Lacey forced Amy to put her into action. Hopefully the Alis (Sonstelie and Hansen) have made the most out of their red shirt years and that both can emerge as strong backups to Brandee and Danni next season.

Will the Bison women be better or fall off a bit next year. I have a suspicion that the rabbits will struggle a little bit, we are better on the perimeter as we have almost everybody returning, but way weaker inside. And our bench will be depleated unless some of the freshman can step up.

Losing the very steady Leah Klabo hurts the inside game. Gibbs was the only other truly inside player. She has good games, but is somewhat unreliable. Not bad as a backup post. NDSU needs new inside players (redshirts, transfer, freshman) to step up next year.

Johnson and Krenz were nice players and their leadership will be missed the most. Lisa Bue can step in for Krenz and Danni H. can step in for Johnson. Brenda Slyt was a nice surprise towards the end of the season, and Kayla Dahlen improved a lot and was a solid player.

Overall, similar to SDSU...weaker on the inside, perimeter should be about the same.

Bue seems to have a style somewhat similar to Angie Froelich...a slasher who has great body control which allows her to get the floaters off. Not sure how her outside shot will be. I think Danni and Brandee will be solid players inside.

Brandee averaged double figures and may have made more of a contribution had Leah not been playing so well. Depth was a key aspect of this year's team at all positions across the board (remember against SDSU in Brookings where all the bigs but Brandee fouled out). The Alis will be counted on to provide the presence down below.
