There is a rumor that Megan Shea, a 5'11" G out of Armstrong in the Twin Cities, has verballed to NDSU. She averaged 7.5 ppg as a junior.

Yeah, I saw that on minnesotapreps. Of course, unless it's in the news, it's just a rumor. The thread also listed three verbals for SDSU: Maria Boever (a sophomore?), Laura Nielson and Alison Anderson.

You don't see too many 6' guards playing WBB, do you?

The link below contains some stats for Shea: *A good all around player on her Armstrong team although the 25% FG is a bit ugh...we'll ahve to see how she plays her final season out.

She is listed as a guard in HS but no guarantee that that will be her role at SU. *

Lead the team in Assists, that's good.

I imagine a point guard will be a high priority in this class plus someone who is a versatile, athletic scorer who can handle the ball and slash to the hoop.

ND's own Rebekka Fieckert might be the answer to the 6'1" slasher the Bison need. And, she can hit the 3, handle, and run the floor.

For those (myself included) who don't know, where is she from, what school, etc.?

Also, when can recruits begin visiting the campus?

tony

Rebecca Feickert plays for Sheridan County. 1st team all-state last year.

No idea when recruiting seasons are.

Fieckert chose Kansas over NDSU, Central Florida, and Drake according to the article on ESPN.com.

Amy signs the following:

Megan Shea, a 6-foot guard from Plymouth, Minn. (Robbinsdale Armstrong H.S.);
Jill Zaruba, 6-1, post player from Monticello, Minn. (Monticello H.S.)
Inger Hodgson, a 5-9 point guard from Barneveld, Wis. (Barneveld H.S.)

Add these three to Jenn Lemnus the 6'3" post out of Enderline via Louisville and you have the new additions for 2006-2007.

They discussed the recruits briefly tonight on Prime Time Sports.

They mentioned that Hodgson should immediately help at point guard next year, even though she is not that tall. She was ranked the 31st best recruit in our six-state region which includes Michigan and Wisconsin by one service, and the 3 best guard in Wisconsin by another. She had 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists in the state championship game.

The stats for Shea that included the low shooting percentage which were previously posted are from her sophmore year. There was some mixup in the initial press releases.

Hodgson sounds like an instant impact player...take the place of Hendrickson who left the team this year. I'm not sure what the mix-up on Shea's stats were...be interesting to see how she does this year...

The Forum comments on the recruits:

Ruley said Jenna Lemnus, the 6-3 center from Enderlin, N.D., who transferred from the University of Louisville but left school, will return next semester and be eligible next season.

Hodgson was ranked the fourth-best recruit in Wisconsin by United States Girls Basketball Guide.

Zaruba was rated the third best center in Class AAA by the Minnesota High School Girls Basketball Guide. She averaged 14.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and shot 46 percent from the field.

Wisconsin State Journal article on on Inger Hodgson (http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/sports/index.php?ntid=61611&ntpid=5)

Kind of a cool thing that she's the first DI recruit from her school. Sounds like NDSU is offering scholarships to some of these players while other schools are waiting to see how their senior seasons go.

I modified some posts just because it seems creepy to put up photos of our recruits. Plus some of the photos were kind of big - don't need to eat up other peoples' bandwidth.

Edit: Good grief, I couldn't have worded that any worse... it felt creepy for me to look at the photos - probably a whole lot different if you are college age. Sorry about that. However, I am sure there are a lot of folks in my same position.

Good call Tony, I know there was no such intent in the posts, but it did seem creepy. I felt like a dirty old man looking at the pictures.

Anyway, the recruits sound good, especially the one from Wisconsin.

It will be interesting to follow these players in their final year of High school ball. Hope they all do well and look forward to seeing them in a Bison uniform. Good Luck to all.

How common is it to recruit players at the start of the Sr. yr? I think its a good move, but I wonder what happens if there is an injury or a complete fall off?

NoDakSt
11-27-2005, 04:40 PM
Don't know about Division II but the majority of DI programs sign most of their players during the early signing period in November prior to their senior year. A few players wait to the late signing period but for the schools, the visitation periods and such make it more feasible to sign in the fall.
