Last year's Bison team was a poor three point shooting team, hitting only 27% from the floor. The 2004-2005 team hit 34% while the 2003-2004 hit 33%. Kat Dahlen was our best threat from deep hitting 41% but she only played just over 13 minutes per game while her twin sister, who started, was a distant second with only 32% efficency. Our post players like to toss it up (although not with any consistency - Heintzelman 12-51, Sonstelie 16-50). But Bue only took 25 shots and hit on 8. She's a guard and only attempted 25, Obviously, we need more of a deep offensive performance from this team to keep opposing defenses honest. Hoping that Moran, Hodgson, or Giordat can provide the deep threat.

Although it's true that last year's team lived and died from behind the three point line, these percentages are not bad for a basketball team. The 32% from Kayla Dahlen, Bue and Sonstelie is actually pretty good... props to Katie with her 41%, that's incredible. I think this year will be more consistent, just because of the depth on the team.

I would have to say that both Bison basketball teams in recent years have been live and die by the three kinds of teams. That's changing on the Men's side a little bit, but not for the women. I think the Jayne Even/Jamie Berry/Jayne Boeddeker trio was the last time they had a potent in the paint team. The best part was all three of those ladies could also step outside and shoot well. Success in any given game starts in the paint and until NDSU restablishes that they will have a hard time finding consistent success.
