This http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=87198§ion=news was in the FF today and I thought it was kind of a funny ND thing that we would be worried about people being mad and how to deal with the new area code. *But after reading it what would be the best way to do it? *
IMO the best plan would be to split the state into different regions and some keep the 701 while the others get the new one. *If you have seperate area codes in the entire state it will be more confusing then anything for people who are calling in.

This is an easy problem to solve....give Cass County its own zip code.

If North Dakota wants to be a VoIP hub, they'll definately need to add another code.

I don't know why they said VoIP has caused an increase of number's as you can still keep the same #. As is the case with switching cell phone service providers, you can keep your existing #.

I think the simplest solution is if they can get all the small towns to release their 9,000 extra numbers and start alloting them in 1,000 number sets.

Once everyone is on VoIP, we won't need phone numbers. You'll call the IP/MAC address of the network device you're tryign to connect to.

Here in Portland, they did an overlay so everyone has to dial 10 digits and new numbers have the new area code. It wasn't too terribly long ago that people only had to dial 4 or 5 digits. My dad has a yardstick with the old style phone number of Adams 21234 instead of 232-1234.
