Here are some of the quarter designs that didn't make the cut:

Pick your favorite (http://images.google.com/images?q=%22North%20Dakota%22%20quarter%20design&h l=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=wi)

You can see the proposed designs on the Forum's site and then vote for your favorite here:

AP Story: Decision time (http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=90068§ion=News)

Not that I'm trying to lobby for a particular choice but folks who hunt already know that ND has geese. Those who don't hunt but live close to geese tend to think of them as annoyingly noisy poop dispensers :)

New trophy? Does George Washington have a football team?

Looks like the bison design is winning hands down in the Forum poll. 79% in favor

Canadian Geese are the new pigeons of the world. They are everywhere and they are a nuisance. Why not put the Bison on the quarter it is a much more noble animal.

It has to be the BISON......heck, it is the mascot for the only major college sports program in the state.....what would make more sense??

Guys, I'm sorry to say this but you all know it's completely true: any UND alumni who as any say anywhere whatsoever will not rest until the Buffalo design is cast away.

They will never allow such a design to represent the state.

The pheasant was imported from China at the turn of the century. Isn't there something 'native' that SD could have used?

State Bird of South Dakota

The Chinese ring-necked pheasant is the state bird. It was introduced to South Dakota in 1898 and is easily recognized by its colorful plumage. It is also known for its delicious meat.

Since it is primarily a Midwestern bird, pheasant is considered a delicacy in many other states.

I've shot more ringnecks in the central valley of Cali than the ducks that I was after.

WYOBISONMAN

Why not the ringneck for SD??......Hell, the mountain they show is all carved up. There isn't much that is natural left in that state.....Go for an imported bird and a mountain that doesn't look like one anymore...... ;)

Looks like the ND quarter will have the Bison on the coin. The committee in charge voted on the Bison design unanimously.

Now the quarter criticism begins:

Other views: Can't we do better than a buffalo? (http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=96507&section=Opinion)

No offense to North Dakota State University, but the move to Division I status doesn't entitle the school to its own quarter.
After 14 months, Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple said he was very pleased with what a minority, even by our state's standards, chose as the image that every human on the planet who comes in contact with a quarter will attribute to North Dakota.

We couldn't do better than a buffalo? What in Teddy Roosevelt's name were we doing over the last year and a "quarter?"

We all know that our state constantly combats the image of a land dominated by wide open desolation, covered wagons, and, of course, buffalo. North Dakotans nearly burned two Rutgers professors in effigy for their "Buffalo" Commons analysis.

But rather than use the single greatest, cost-free marketing opportunity in history to combat the image, we play right into it. And not just in spirit, but with a buffalo using the Badlands as its commons area.

This really took 14 months? And over those 14 months, it never came up that maybe, just maybe, our state might look just a little backwards after this one?........................

Maybe some of you guys have a better memory than me, but his name sounds awfully familiar. Wasn't he the radio guy for Delta State when we played them in 2000. He posted on the old D2footall.com board. Not that it really means anything, I was just thinking I'd read that name before.
