View Full Version : Bison License Plates?

On the WDAY news last night or the previous night, they had a story about how the ND house just passed a bill that would allow organizations to put their logos on license plates. Supposedly the organizations that can be featured are somewhat limited, and they would require an order of at least 400 (cost is only $20 more than the regular plates- some money $10 [?] goes to the ND DOT, *and the rest goes to the organization).

Anyhow, if NDSU qualifies, it would be pretty cool to get some Bison license plates.

Anybody know who to contact at NDSU to inform them of this?

I've seen other states who have specialized plates for their big public schools. I think it's a really good idea!

1) establish residency in ND, or

2) just make a BattleWagonTM

That' exactly what I mean. I've seen these before in MS too (they have them for UM, MSU, and USM).

Here is one I made up on my own. I think it would be cool if ND did some thing like this:

Actually I think they should change the entire plate if they are going to do special ones for individual institutions. I would rather see most of the plate be NDSU or UND or whoever then just the little logo. Or can they not have that drastic of differences in the plates?

Iowa does this I think. I've seen entire Hawkeye plates.

That's what I was thinking, I think there are some plates that are entirely different for different causes. Why wouldn't the state do this? Isn't it just an easy money maker? I wouldn't think they would have to go through many changes to have them made. Maybe just offer them once every so many years or something.
I think it would be pretty cool, I've always wondered why ND didn't have something about the city or county (you live in) or something on the plates, anyone know why we don't?

LOL- That one has TWO Bison on it!

On another note- I heard the ND license plates are going to be a new design, possibly next year.

not that i care, but i'm sure there are folks who will say it's hateful and discriminatory?

On the same thought has anyone noticed the highway signs in SD they have an Indian head on them. I was wondering if that has ever been brought up for discussion or not. I think it's SD?

it's north dakota (you were being sarcastic, right?)

the reason i bring this up is that i know in the law that passed for license plates is that explicitly states that no hateful groups can get the plates (kkk, neo-nazis, und?!?)

i was wondering if the anti-nickname faction will use this as another opportunity to make their statement?

Another example today:

Top-seeded Illinois is preparing to take on Louisville in the Final Four, but the Illini will take the court in St. Louis Saturday without their mascot.

If you guys really want to discuss the nickname there is a thread going on www.siouxsports.com right now with a native american man trading arguments over the use of the name and wether or not it is appropriate. I don't like to get into this argument as I don't expect it to change unless the NCAA made everyone change.

But, I guess there is an entire thread about the nickname so we don't need to discuss that issue here, but I would think that these belly-achers will use any chance they can to complain about the nickname.

I am guessing that UND would probably not use the SIOUX logo and just use the UND flame logo.

If I remember right I think North Dakota law requires the slogan "Peace Garden State" to be on all license plates.

I'm really sorry that you don't realize that being anti-UND is being pro-NDSU. In the future, know your role.

Ha Ha...the two aren't mutually exclusive so your statement is false. I know people who are fans of both UND and NDSU. In fact, the one would listen to the UND games on her headset while watching the Bison Games live. You need to know your role, jabroni!

You know that some people have just reasoning in their taking offense to your nickname. Not everybody that brings up an issue is a belly-acher. If someone does something to you that offends you must stand up and defend your case until you are heard, this is one of our greatest rights as Americans. Just because you are unable to open your eyes to the fact that there is another side to this issue doesn't make your ignorance right. You need to see the big picture that you are generalizing an entire group of people, and some take offense to it.

I am generalizing about the few who complain about the nickname every time there is a camera around or some press. I am not generalizing these cultures as a whole.
I do realize there is another side to this and I welcome that. I'm not one who is so pro-Sioux nickname that I don't welcome opposing arguments, so don't generalize me to be in that crowd please, thank you! ::)

Has anyone heard anything about the new plates (or if they are even available)? The application is online, and you need 400 people to sign on to make the plate, so who has the sign-up sheet...

Anyone with the inside on this?

The ISU plate sells for $35, of which $25 goes right into ISU scholarships. Renewal is $25 a year, with $15 of that going into scholarships. It's a great way to show your support, both literally and $$.

The NDSU Alumni Foundation contacted the ND DOT in May. They indicated they would have the parameters/process determined by early September. NDSU will definitely be following-up on this opportunity.
