NDSU has moved up in the latest National Science Foundation (NSF) report on research and development expenditures among the country’s more than 600 research universities and colleges. NSF now ranks NDSU 122nd, up from 126th one year ago. NDSU’s position is the highest NSF ranking in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.

According to the report, NDSU’s research expenditures were $91.8 million during fiscal 2003, the most recent year available. For next year’s NSF rankings, NDSU reported research expenditures of $102.1 million for fiscal 2004.

Excellent news. Just another reminder of what excellent leadership and vision can bring to a university. Thanks, Dr Chapman!

Doing a quick ROI on the hire of Dr Chapman at NDSU vs., say, Dr Kupchella at UND, wouldn't you say SU is coming up roses? I would bet that both of these guys are getting paid the same amount (or very close)... Maybe that should be reviewed given the return that Chapman is clearly bringing NDSU and the state of North Dakota?
