NDSU bridge wins

North Dakota State University civil engineering students placed first last weekend at the Midwest Regional Steel Bridge Competition for the fourth year in a row.
The seven-student team competed against eight other universities.

The overall goal of the competition is to have a light, stiff and easy to assemble bridge. The rules change each year to give students a new test.

NDSU’s bridge is 22 feet long and stands about 6 feet above the ground.

The students will advance to the national competition May 26-27 in Salt Lake City. NDSU won the national contest in 2004, 2002 and 1995, more times than any other university.

Go Bison!

Do they allow Sanitation Engineers in the competition? ;)

It's too hard to make a bridge out of hockey sticks.

UND engineers were very active in the building of dikes and flood maintenance in 1997

Also in the roof design of the ALERUS.

A weird thing,

the UND BSME, BSEE, and BSCE were all ABET certified in 1936.

The NDSU BSME wasn't certified until 1940 and BSEE and BSCE weren't until 1948.

Yet NDSU is considered the engineering school with far superior programs.

I believe Und engineers were in charge of quality control on the dikes and levees in New Orleans! ::) ::) ::)

The amount of time spent on something doesn't necessarily account for the quality of the product. I know people who are still going to college trying to achieve their undergrad and are on 10 years. I garuantee you, they're not going to be twice as good as someone who did it 5 years.

I know the previous post was a slam against UND and I agree. NDSU is BY FAR the premiere Engineering, Computer Science, Polymeric, Architecture, Pharmacy and Veterinary science University (pardon me if I left a few out... we exceed in quite a few fields) in the region. Aside from UofM of course in some aspects. ;D
