A noise meter (http://www.ncaa.org/news/2004/20040802/awide/4116n08.html)

I have been to several pro sports events that show a noise meter on the scoreboard and it does seem to get the fans going. Kind of a challenge to see if they can "break the meter".

This would be easy to do with the new video boards at the Fargodome.

There was a "noise meter" on the videoboards last year, and I believe the previous year, as well. They were used before the team came onto the field. Maybe they would actually work better if people were motivated with free food :-/.

I must say that the "pizza scream" that the Redhawks used to do was (1) quite loud, but (2) the cheesiest thing I've ever seen.

We must be careful not to emulate und* on this one--their scale goes loud to "Siouxper" loud. Talk about lame.

Also, how are the old farts that can't stand noise (thus the deadening of the post-score fireworks, etc.) going to react?

What I'm trying to say is, good idea if employed wisely, say on third and long with the Bison on "D". Not between quarters. You'd think a guy wouldn't have to spell this out, but our "cheerleaders" and such have attempted worse.

On a side note, the Bison should give away earplugs before the first game. I'm sure they could get a sponsor for it, and maybe, just maybe, that would promote the notion that the game is going to be loud well enough that it actually would be loud. And all the geezers and ne'er do wells can plug their ears...

Hasn't there been a Domino's Cheesy Bread loudest section contest going on for years at the Fargodome?

Time to think outside the box- The younger fans will should be loud no matter what. They have to get the older fans into the game. My suggestion-A Viagra noise meter- Free Viagra for whatever section is the loudest on opponent's third downs during the game. That'll get those old farts out of their seats. ;D

Assuming, of course, that the opposing cheerleaders are a significant upgrade from those in years past, and that the "free cataract surgery giveaway" has already taken place. Also, better allow more than 30 minutes--these old farts don't move all that fast--my guess is 45 minutes travel time, 30 seconds action.

For the pure noise factor, nobody promotes this better than basketball at the University of Missouri. In the corners of the Hearnes Center, there are live decibal meters with large readouts (similar to the play clocks at the dome). That place gets louder than any building I've ever been in...

This would be downright cool at Bison games in the dome. Assuming, of course, that the crowd could achieve a noise level higher than "rustling leaves in a gentle breeze".
