The top four place winners move into the next round!

the poll really should say 6,000-6,999 for example. After all... 6000 or more is the same as saying 7000.

I'd like to see 7-8k expandable!

I think we'd be crazy not start with at least 9,000 seats with easy ability to expand to 12,000. Even Minot State has a 10,000 seat arena. >:(

how often does minot state sell out? Or how often does the UofM team sell out Williams (14k seats)??? The answers... Almost never. Even the UofM teams (when they have a good team) don't sell out every game. Think of how much larger their fanbase is compared to ours. NDSU might have a couple hundred thousand fans in the WORLD. The UofM has Millions in the state.

The UofM DOES NOT have millions in the state. 80% of the people in MN couldnt care about the U.

Are there even 10,000 people in Minot? :-? ;) I think you build an arena that holds 7-8K with extremely nice seating. Make it intimate - in other words, hard as hell for the visiting team to hear what they're even thinking.

I say 10k is the absolute maximum. The Univ. of Pittsburgh's basketball arena that was built in 2002 cost 63 million and seats 12,508 for basketball games and about 9000 for concerts. It is super a super nice arena, but we wouldnt need to spend quite that much money because the building also includes a 40,000 sq. ft student fitness center and locker rooms (which we already have in other places). Not to mention an entire food concourse and proshop.

My point is, that this team plays in the big east and has been a tourney team for quite a few years now. The last few years Pitt has sucked at football, so it is primarily a "basketball" school. I have yet to see a sellout in that place, and most games I go to even the student section isn't full (and the arena is on campus). I just think that building a 10k arena for NDSU would be wasteful. Of course everyone would love to see the attendance be 10-12k but realistically I would much rather have a nicer arena at 8-10k.

Nothing wrong with 8K to 10K. I just don't want to see an undersized facility in the 6K to less than 8K size. That is ridiculous. If it is built under 8K it had better have expandability for 2K more.

A little update to this: Kolpack's blog Hallstrom's latest blog entry indicates that NDSU and Fargo would split the cost 50-50 so it'd be a $30 million arena (he cites our AD as his source).

NDSU putting together $15 million is a lot more doable than the some of the figures being bounced around before. That makes me feel a little more confident that this thing will get done.

If we could swing something like this I would be on board 100%.

I would also like to see some money (not a lot, but some) spent on remodeling the BSA as an all-purpose facility for the athletic department (ie, offeseason training for baseball, track, etc) and the NDSU recreation department. NDSU could use some more gym space so doing this would be a cost-effective way of doing that.

On second thought -- an 8K - 10K arena is probably a good fit since it probably won't be used for many concerts with the Fargodome nearby.

Even if it were used for concerts, I think many of the shows around the area that are less than monster names would work quite well in the smaller, intimate arena. Example: there have been quite a few shows at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City since that's gone up. It holds something like 4500-5500 people for a concert and all are good seats. They've had people come in for Christmas shows (Michael W. Smith, Lori Line) as well as Rascal Flats. You get a sell out, can charge more for a ticket than normal and people will pay for it and everyone gets a good show. You don't need a big arena for a good show and I think people now days are beginning to realize that.

5-8k is the typical comfy mid sized arena for concerts and such... now days. Fargodome is too big for vast majority of acts right now.

Does anyone think that a larger size arena (8,000 seat range) would get much too big for the Women's basketball team? *Remember, they will also use the new place as their home arena.

If it's a bit big, they could hang a curtain around closing the upper level seats off. They do this in the Bismarck Civic Center and it works fine.

Build the arena to the appropriate size for the mens program and women's basketball can just deal with playing there. They are never going to draw on a level with the men's program, so let's not restrict one program in favor of another.
