FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA--University of Idaho's JACK MAY, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward, will transfer to North Dakota State University. TIM MILES, head men's basketball coach at NDSU made the announcement today.

Miles said May will have one year of eligibility remaining and will be eligible at the start of the season.

“We are thrilled to add Jack to our program. He is a proven performer at the Division I level and we expect big things from him ,” said Miles.

“Jack is a power forward who can play inside and out, he is a great rebounder and smart offensive player. He is capable of putting up big numbers every night.”

A native of Chino Hills, CA, May averaged 7.6 points and six rebounds per game for the Vandals last season. He played in 25 games a season ago. May connected on 43-percent from the field and 68.1 percent from the foul line.

May had eight games with double-figure scoring in 2002-03 including a career-high 25 points against Sacramento State. He added 11 rebounds against Hornets to complete one of two "daily doubles". May also had four games with double-figure rebounds including a career-high 13 against Boise State.

May transferred to Idaho from perennial junior college powerhouse College of Southern Idaho and played along side current Division I players Ricky Clemons and Tim Ellis. He averaged 10.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Golden Eagles as a sophomore.

As a freshman, May played for Atlantic-10 member Duquesne University. He averaged seven points and 5.6 rebounds while starting 24 games.

Jack is the son of Ted and Julie May, Chino Hills, CA.

MAY joins five other announced recruits including 6-6 junior college frontliner DAVID ERBES of North Dakota State College of Science, 6-7 high school senior ANDREW BROWN of Dickinson (ND) High School, 6-6 forward SCOTT THEIS from Shakopee (MN) High School, and brothers 6-5 forward AARON and 6-4 forward MYRON GREEN of Lake Land College.

Miles credits NDSU assistant coach TODD KOERING for his efforts on this season's recruiting class.

“Todd's hard work has paid off in a big way for the Bison. This recruiting class is large in numbers and in talent,” said Miles.

The Bison posted a 20-11 overall chart in 2002-03 including a 9-7 North Central Conference record in the second season under Miles. He is looking forward to moving out of Division II in style in 2003-04.

“NDSU hoops should be a lot of fun to watch next season for our students and our fans,” said the Bison head coach.

North Dakota State finished seventh in the nation in NCAA Division II attendance in 2002-03 with an average of 2,868 fans per game at the Bison Sports Arena.
