WASHINGTON COUNTY: 2 Titans are award finalists

Tartan is one of five schools represented on the lists of finalists for both the Mr. and Miss Basketball awards, which were made public Monday.

The Titans' Eric Coleman, a 6-foot-6 forward, is one of the 20 finalists for Mr. Basketball, and Abby Nielsen is one of the 20 girls in contention for Miss Basketball.

Osseo, Bloomington Jefferson and Blaine are the other schools with one of each. Osseo's finalists are Jesse Becker for Mr. Basketball and Krista VandeVenter for Miss Basketball. Jefferson has John Vaudreuil and Sarah Austin, and Blaine has Patrick O'Bryant and Stephanie Reiter.

Hopkins, ranked No. 2 in the metro rankings for both boys and girls, has two male finalists and one female. Jadee Jones and Mitch Henke are the Royals being considered for Mr. Basketball, and Krista VandeVenter is up for Miss Basketball.

One other team besides Hopkins has two boys on the list, and that's Park Center, which is represented by Miles Webb and Andre Gilbert.

The other boys nominated are Ben Woodside, Albert Lea; Everette Pedes-cleaux, Armstrong; Ryan Amoroso, Burnsville; Spencer Tollackson, Chaska; Matt Cadwell, Cretin-Derham Hall; Tommy Drake, Eden Prairie; Ryan Gargaro, Hill-Murray; Bret Brielmaier, Mankato Loyola; Tom Conboy, Minnetonka; Brett Winkelman, Morris; Steven Neal, Minneapolis Henry; and Tom Lunde, Ulen-Hitterdal.

Minneapolis North, the defending Class AAA state champion in girls basketball, has two Miss Basketball finalists: Tyrai Bronson and Mia Johnson.

The other finalists for that award are: Lisa Bildeaux, Grand Rapids; Sarah Eisenschenk, Albany; Katy Freeman, Duluth East; Danye Guinn, St. Francis; Leslie Knight, Hopkins; Ashley Langen, Kittson Central; Melissa Miller, Breck; Nikki Munneke, Centennial; Jackie Norton, White Bear Lake; Ali Prichard, Apple Valley; Kari Schmidt, Chisago Lakes; Stevi Seitz, Benilde-St. Margaret's; Casie Shepherd, Prior Lake; and Katie Tacheny, Woodbury.

The winners of both awards will be announced April 25.
