If you're going, buy them early. They are all the same price, so the earlier you buy them, the better seat you will get. Don't wait too long, the game may well sell out. The Gophers' NCAA playoff appearance, Bison fans in the Twin Cities, Bison fans coming down from Fargo and the appeal of a cross-border rivalry forming, there should be a lot of interest in this game.

It certainly will have more appeal than many teams that the Gophers have scheduled early in the season in years past. It's hard to get excited about a game against Lipscomb, for example, when few people, myself included don't even know where Lipscomb is located.

I also contacted the AD/Team Makers to see if they are doing anything, but haven't heard back yet.

I hope to see five thousand bison fans down there.

Also, is scalping illegal in MN?

Is there a specific section or area for away teams at Williams. It would be nice to have a concentrated area.

Oct 10, I will be buying at least 4 tickets and up to 10. Gotta see the Bison play a Big Ten team.

is this game going to be on tv anywhere?

Scalping may not be legal, but it happens a lot. I went to the Gophers - Chicago State game last year, and bought tickets from a scalper. I paid less than face value for tickets, because fan interest in the Gophers was down, and people didn't care about Chicago State that much.

If there are a lot of Bison fans attending, this would go a long way to making the Gophers - Bison game an every-year event.

It says $30/seat, $20 is you buy 15 or more.

I'm still waiting for a reply from the athletic department/teammakers regarding group tickets sold on our end.

every Gopher game is telivised. *this is the season opener.

doesnt Chicago State have a good chance of being in our conference in the near future? :)

Rodentia

I don't mean to denigrate the Mid-Con or Chicago State. There just wasn't a lot of connection to Chicago State. On the other hand, at least people here know where Chicago is. A school like Lipscomb, people couldn't relate to them at all. NDSU is a much better opener than Lipscomb. I'm hoping this is the start of a good cross-border Rivalry.

If you want better seats, go to the basketball forum on Gopherhole.com, and you might be able to find a season ticket holder who isn't planning on attending this game. *On the other hand, if you buy the upper deck seats, you'll be more likely to be around fellow Bison fans.

I bought mine today - Section 224, Row 13.

Does anyone else think the game time should be moved to 7pm? and if so, is this even possible?

Or is the time the way it is because of the TV schedule?

TV money dictates most of the starting times.

William's Arena, aka the Barn, has a capacity of 14,625. I think there may be a few obstructed view seats. But if you are getting tickets soon, this won't be a problem.

http://www.gophersports.com/facilities/facility.asp?facility=williamsarena

Williams Arena was completed and dedicated as the University of Minnesota Field House in 1928. The original building housed basketball, winter football practice facilities, track & field and baseball. In 1950 the building was remodeled with a hockey arena on one end and a basketball arena on the other. It was also renamed in honor of Dr. Henry L. Williams, U of M football coach from 1900 to 1921. During the summer of 1993, the final phase of the renovation project was completed at Williams Arena. The renovation project included a new east end structure with varsity basketball team areas, club room, media work room and ticket office including the creation of a sizeable entry area. Also completed was comprehensive refurbishing and refinishing of all surfaces, theater-style seats, and a state-of-the art computerized scoreboard system. Today, Williams Arena is the home of the University of Minnesota men's and women's basketball teams. The "Barn" has a seating capacity of 14,625. A raised court, only one of a handful in the country, is a special feature at Williams Arena.

My father is coming down from Erskine to see this game, and we're going to Foshay Tower observation deck while he is here. The Foshay Tower is dwarfed these days by the larger skyscrapers, but it has been restored, and has the only observation deck in Minneapolis.

I suppose others can tell you where the good bars and restuarants are in the area, I can tell you where the good geeky tourist stuff is. ;)

It's in the upper deck on the corner, but I can handle it.

I have sat in the lower level, under upper-deck, and not been able to see the scoreboard. I believe there were some poles in that area.

Section 224 may be the green and gold section for the Gopher game. Minnesota people don't like those colors, to similar to the Green Bay Packers.

Rodentia
10-11-2005, 05:41 PM
I suppose you could be mistaken for Packers fans, because I wouldn't put it past Packers fans to mistake a college basketball game for a pro football game. ;)

There may be a lot of green in this section, but there will be gold too, this is just where single-game tickets are being sold. Is there a block of tickets reserved for NDSU?

mikelsch
10-11-2005, 06:57 PM
No blocks of tickets available from the NDSU box office. Everything must be purchased through the Goopher office.

Shoot, slightly to far to pull off the ultimate road trip... well unless you don't sleep at all.

>>Minneapolis 6PM Friday, Carbondale 3PM Saturday.

Appears to be a 12 hour drive between them.

C'mon 99Bison, Mapquest says it is only 11 hours, 14 minutes. You can probably subtract at least a 1/2 hour from that since it will be middle of the night driving, and also because Mapquest drive times usually seem a little long. Plenty of time to get there and tailgate! :) :)

So tempting... Sounds kinda like "back in the day" when we drove to NW Missouri leaving after a BB game in fargo... We slept once we got to the field, very tired, especially driving at 8 am.

Drive 2:14 from StL to Carbondale. Time for a good lunch before a 3pm kick.

Better alternative than a overnight drive! :)

Does anyone know of any hotels in the Williams Arena vicinity? Is the campus actually in downtown St. Paul or Minneapolis? How about before or after the game for eats and brews?

Rodentia
11-15-2005, 04:50 PM
While the U of M campus sprawls into both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Williams Arena is in Minneapolis. The address is: 1925 University Avenue SE
Minneapolis, MN 55455
(612) 624-3514

Here is a link to hotels, sorted by distance from Williams Arena: http://www.hotels.com/processAddressSearch.do?searchType=address&street1 =1925+University+Avenue+SE&street2=Minneapolis%2C+ MN&propertyTypesSent=true&allPropertyTypesSelected =on&amenitiesSent=true&inout=&CIMonth=-1&CIDay=-1&CIYear=2005&COMonth=-1&CODay=-1&COYear=2005&numrooms=1&adults%5B0%5D=2&child%5B0 %5D=0

You can save some money if you want to drive a couple miles, but there are some decent rates near the arena.
The Raddison Metrodome appears to the the closest (Hotels.com claims that it is 0.2 miles), but the Days In University is cheaper ($61 for the Days Inn vs. $105 for the Raddison), and not much farther (according to hotels.com, it is 0.4 miles)

A little farther away, there is the Super 8 Roseville, at $45, and that is about 3.5 miles from Williams Arena)
