Fox Sports MidWest FSMW Ch. 648 on DirecTV

"This program is not available in your area." *>:(

So, what am I paying extra bucks for the sports package for if I can't watch the games I'm interested in?

Even if I did drive 260 mi. to Fargo, I wouldn't get in anyway as they are sold out. Aren't blackouts supposed to protect the arenas from losing ticket sales? If I knew who to complain to, I would.

Thank God for ThunderRadio!

Crowd is awesome.

Bison seem hot enough.

KSU playing pressure defense. Winkleman open.
Teams trading baskets.

Offensive foul on Woodside.

Listen to that crowd.

ThunderRadio isn't keeping us appraised of the score. Must be close, though.

Nope, Gophers and Michigan Tech

I'm now listening to the K-State feed as WDAY has pretty much faded out. K-State announcers are very good, too.

That's too bad. And he has a right to be ticked. But he also said BSA is a great venue. They were treated well by many people and he wishes he could get that kind of support when he goes home.

Huggins also said the Bison are "One heckuva good basketball team." They don't have a 6'10'' athlete in front of the rim like Cal. That's the only difference. He said the Bison have the best offense they've played.

The refs called it tight all night long, we got jobbed but really so what. K-State played a great game and we were right there with them all game, NDSU may not have the athletes they do but we are every bit as good they are and for a team 3 years out of being a mediocore DII program thats quite a feat. It was a great atmosphere. I believe the attendence was 6,110 if I heard right. But, we def. need a new arena. The seats high in the west balcony are pretty bad. You can see the players and all of that, but that ceiling is in part of your view that would distract you if you dont get used to it.

In Huggins defense there were 20 idiots who rode him the whole game with that DUI and graduation crap, it was classless and completely uncalled for. It was almost like a select few students came to the game to taunt Huggins instead of chear for a Bison victory.

Huggins is no saint either the guy swore a fair amount and the DUI and graduation stuff was his doing but at NDSU we are better then that. Everyone makes mistakes, I wonder how these people who tauned Huggins with that garbage would feel if we put them on the court and taunted them for all the mistakes they have made. If I was next one of them I would have said that but they were behind me somewhere. Besides that crap the fans were great and I hope they bring the same intensity more often.

Honestly...

1. This was the best and most consistent refing we have had at the BSA for as long as I can remember. Sure woody was fouled but how often is that called in the last 10 seconds? It was pretty blatent foul though especially for out in the perminiter so IMHO it should have been called.
2. They made the 3's like no tomorrow... #3 was good at those, we left him wide open way too much.
3. Nelson missing 3/4 of the second half killed us.
4. The crowd was FANTASTIC!
5. Would have been nice to see Woody kick it to a wide open man for an easy look when he was dribbling around 4 guys in the last 12 seconds.
6. Depth hurt us. I wish we would have put in Vaughan for a few minutes regardless, in hindsight it really couldn't have hurt.
7. Defensively we shouldn't have switched to zone for more than 1 series. Then again it was a huge disaster with 2 min left, we did it again and they scored 7-0 on us.
8. Heart breaker with lotsa woulda coulda shouldas.

No offense to "NDSU Student" but if you think our student section is bad, then you are wrong. If a coach gets a DUI....book it. EVERY STADIUM IS GOING TO BARK ABOUT IT. They play in the Big 12....this is nothing. It only looks bad because we don't see it much. He could care less. The refs killed it. Like someone said, what is with the refs running over to Huggy every 15 seconds to check on him. He basically offiiciated the last 5 minutes. I am hot. Ricky Bobby, let me know when your wife says it is ok for me to come over for some scotch, I am not sleeping anytime soon. I really hope this does not affect our ability to schedule big teams, and I hope the crowd continues to support the team regardless of the competition. We have 3 recruits at the game, I spoke with one set that sat in front of me. All class, I hope the decide to be part of the tradition. They had a blast. The atmosphere was amazing. I hope the students had fun and do it again next week. Again, no offense to NDSU STUDENT, I just disagree. The students pay their money and they can do what they want, just don't throw stuff on the court, that is bush league. DUI, graduation rate....seriously...I expected more. Do you think that JJ Redick wanted to hear "Brokeback Mountain" chanted at his games last year? It happens, we just barely ever see it.

Mr._Burgundy
12-10-2006, 03:17 AM
Oh, and it is called a hand check. It is not allowed in basketball. Maybe Woody can demonstrate during the Tim Miles show. That was not consistent reffing. I agree that we are not deep, but sitting Woody in the 2nd half for Josh? Josh hasn't played and I am sure would have been nervous. Tough to throw him in for spot minutes against those athletes. Josh is a HUGE part of our future, but tonight was tough. I do not disagree that we were tired.

Honestly...

1. This was the best and most consistent refing we have had at the BSA for as long as I can remember. Sure woody was fouled but how often is that called in the last 10 seconds? It was pretty blatent foul though especially for out in the perminiter so IMHO it should have been called. *

+++++

You're right, refs were pretty consistent for the most part. Some ticky-tack fouls on both sides, but they were fair for the most part. That last play, usually we see alot of guys make a poor attempt at drawing contact, but Woody got his defender up in the air, and drew contact, that was a blatant foul.
But as far as Woody kicking out to someone, he couldnt! that was great man to man D on K-State's part, and woody just couldnt get it to anyone, and they forced him to a tough shot- which he got fouled on

No offense to "NDSU Student" but if you think our student section is bad, then you are wrong. *If a coach gets a DUI....book it. *EVERY STADIUM IS GOING TO BARK ABOUT IT. *They play in the Big 12....this is nothing. *It only looks bad because we don't see it much. *He could care less. *The refs killed it. *Like someone said, what is with the refs running over to Huggy every 15 seconds to check on him. *He basically offiiciated the last 5 minutes. *I am hot. *Ricky Bobby, let me know when your wife says it is ok for me to come over for some scotch, I am not sleeping anytime soon. *I really hope this does not affect our ability to schedule big teams, and I hope the crowd continues to support the team regardless of the competition. *We have 3 recruits at the game, I spoke with one set that sat in front of me. *All class, I hope the decide to be part of the tradition. *They had a blast. *The atmosphere was amazing. *I hope the students had fun and do it again next week. *Again, no offense to NDSU STUDENT, I just disagree. *The students pay their money and they can do what they want, just don't throw stuff on the court, that is bush league. *DUI, graduation rate....seriously...I expected more. *Do you think that JJ Redick wanted to hear "Brokeback Mountain" chanted at his games last year? *It happens, we just barely ever see it.

Something pissed him off, otherwise he wouldn't have said anything about in the press conference. Really I don't care if we have a few negative cheers but some people just didn't give it a rest. There is a point where enough is enough and it was pretty clear that NDSU didn't want to see our students spewing that crap. Coach Bohl even walked into the student section and told us to keep it clean.

Yep, just watched the replay and the guy jumped right into Woodside. Worst call I have ever seen to end a game. I understand if a player is driving into the lane but Woody was outside alone and the guy mugs him. I don't care if it is the end of the game you make that call.

The play broke down, Dre said it, Woodside aknowledged he had no shot and tried to get fowled. You don't call a fowl in that situation unless you were taking a legit shot and it is impeded. Dre said it, no fowl. They should have had a plan. I am crushed. We led 39:00 minutes of that game. :-[

So because 'Dre said it wasn't a "Fowl"....err...foul, then it wasn't a foul? Trust me, Timmy made it very clear he didn't want the entire team going on the radio complaining about the officials. Flintstone said it correctly.....If a foul is committed, it is committed. Regardless of time or situation. This was a joke. I will not get over this one for a while. Also, I thought it was bunk for 'Dre to say that some of the team was nervous and needs to get over that. Come on. You win and lose as a team.

Thats pretty harsh. Dre wants to win, just as everyone else, he'll get frustrated at the end of games, and maybe doesnt say the best things, but by no means, do I think he's a Kobe Bryant guy. He knows as well as anyone that he needs Woody, Mike, Wink, everyone on that team.

Sorry guys, I didn't read the whole thread, just the last 3 pages or so, but am I the only one that noticed that for the last 11 minutes of the game not 1 foul was called on the Wildcats!! That combined with the switch to the 2-3 match up zone are what cost the game.

Great job Woody, Andre and all the Bison players, great effort. Play that well every night and cut out a few turn-overs and we will win a lot more then we lose.

Over all a great game to be at, the students really did an amazing job, razzing Huggins, etc. We do need the behind the basket people to make a little more noise during opponents freethrows though.

If we wouldn't have switched to the zone, they would have kept taking it to the rim like they did early in the second half. We couldn't stop them. I think Miles was relying on his scouting report that they were a terrible 3-point shooting team. Once they started hitting outside, there wasn't much we could do. It was a pick your poison situation. Either man up, step out and guard on the perimeter (have them blow by us) or pack the lane so they can't drive (they knock down the outside shots). They were killing us in the second half no matter what we did. Packing the lane worked against Marquette because they couldn't hit the outside shots with any consitency (It also worked against Wisconsin last year for the same reason). It didn't work against K-State. We will have this same problem against the more athletic teams if they have good outside shooters.

Dre is a great talent and helps the bison team tremondously but I have a problem with what he said. If your going to call out the players like he did indirectly, why not just say Moorman, Mike, and Brett didn't step up defensively tonite? The players he called out already know the struggles they had through out the game, they don't need someone calling them out publicly because thats what he pretty much did. Why does he feel the need to point fingers? Why doesn't he acknowledge the couple of bad turnovers he had or the missed free throws if he's going to point fingers?

He doesn't show the professionalism like Woody does during an interviews. Woody acknowledged the TEAM had several lapses defensively but he didn't single anyone out. Woody was all about TEAM. You win and you lose as a TEAM, you don't start pointing fingers which is exactly what Smith did. Again I think Dre is a great player and he's earned his right to call people out as long as Dre starts taking some responsibility as well. I know this is just Dre and thats how he is with his personality about him telling it like it is but that doesn't make it right.

By the way, I love Woody thanking the crowd for their support like he did during the interview with Scott. It really makes you want to go to the game and support the players and the university when players come out and acknowledge how much the crowd makes a difference like that. Woody is a CLASS ACT!

No, Tim Miles specifically said that Andre said that he needed help getting through that game. *Plus there is a big difference between playing tentatively and playing right after recovering from the flu. *Im sorry, but I just felt that he was doing some constructive criticism. *I guess my opinion is a little different from everyone else, but I would rather have someone call me out (yes even in public) then to pretend that everything is perfect.

I agree with your post 100%! Keep your criticism of your teammates behind closed doors. You don't air your laundry out in public, you do it in private. If you have a problem with Mike, Lucas, or Brett's play, talk to them and let them know in the locker room. I don't think its a big deal, I just don't think its professional or beneficial towards the team at all. Comments like the ones that Woody had after the game about the team are the comments that helps bring the team together not apart.

So you are saying because Dre had a physical problem in that game it was an excuse. *In case you havn't heard, every one of the perimeter player have been playing on bumb ankles. *Woody's was still pretty badly swellin in the Marquette Tournament. *The argument doesn't hold up. *Play your game and keep any issues within the team structure. *Not with the media.

You play basketball with your heart between the lines on the court. *Not with your mouth. *The coaches will act accordingly if there are ever any slackers. *Have not seen anything like that on this team.

I agree with your post 100%! *Keep your criticism of your teammates behind closed doors. *You don't air your laundry out in public, you do it in private. *If you have a problem with Mike, Lucas, or Brett's play, talk to them and let them know in the locker room. *I don't think its a big deal, I just don't think its professional or beneficial towards the team at all. *Comments like the ones that Woody had after the game about the team are the comments that helps bring the team together not apart.
You hit the nail on the head there...Andre can say whatever he wants in the locker room. Hopefully Miles has a talk with the boy.

Fact. If Andre Smith wasn't on the team the Bison would have lost at Marquette and the game on Saturday wouldn't have been close.

Opinion. There is nothing wrong with a guy who just had his best career game (Marquette) talking about himself-especially when the broadcasters ask about him and his performance.

Fact. A couple of Bison had poor performances on Saturday night.

Dre's Opinion. They needed to loosen up a bit. OMFG! The kid gave his honest opinion (one which is hard to disagree with). Some of you prefer this to Woodside's political response (which is also hard to disagree with especially if you are from the Northern Great Plains). [It is also important to look at Dre's response. he didn't question his teammate's talent, athleticism, effort, or playing as a team.]

If you watch the game replay you will see that this game was lost on the defensive end. *K-State put a lot of pressure on the defense with hard drives to the basket which in many cases the off-the-ball defenders did not step in to help to stop penetration. *They also ran some good inside-out action by enterering the ball to the free throw line area and kicked back out to the perimeter for open threes. *We did not contest that pass to the middle well and did not close out on the shooters well. *Much of this occured when we went to a 2-3 zone for several trips in the second half. *

Our offense scored 81 points which was enough to win and for the most part was efficient. *No one played tight or nervous. *

Defense is a team effort and I couldn't see anyone that played better or worse than anyone else. *Everyone makes errors and mistakes during the course of the game. More effort could have been put in by everyone on help and recovery. *That takes a lot of energy but with a very athletic team like K-State the effort needed to be stepped up.

When the team loses and players talk to the media, the only thing that needs to be said is that we lost as a team and will get back after it to correct some things in practice. *End of story. *Calling individuals out is Bush.

Don't know if this has been mentioned in here yet, but Miles and Woodside were very appreciative of the crowd in the postgame press conference.

Just my feeling now, but I predict that when the 2006-2007 season is in the books, this K-State team under Huggins will have wound up being the best team we played this season. If they start getting production out of their 7'3" center Bennent, watch out.

It seemed like we had the hardest time so far this year againt the teams we played in trying to guard them. Martin, Hoskins and Harris were particularly strong with the dribble to the basket and could finish.

They have a very long and athletic team that if shoots anywhere near the efficiency they displayed at the BSA will only get better. I look forward to seeing how they do in the Big 12.
