Here's the story about Keith Smette, killed serving his country in Iraq along with Kenneth Hendrickson of Bismarck:

Professors say Smette stood out among students DAVE KOLPACK (http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/special_packages/iraq/7802317.htm)

Sorry, I couldn't correct the post title so I ended up deleting the original thread - didn't want to leave it out there screwed up.

Here are the posts that I deleted (taken out the sentence pointing out my mistake):

NDSU_Grad: Before I went back to grad school, I worked for SunPrairie Grain and casually knew his dad Doug. I'm sure this is definitely hitting the town of Makoti hard.

ndsubison: Deepest sympathies to the Smette family. Sometimes it becomes all too easy for us to take the little things in life or even life itself for granted. I know I personally will use this time for reflection and thanks. It is people like Keith Smette that give us the freedom, comfort and safety that we experience as part of everyday life. For that I am grateful. Rest in Peace, Keith. Our thoughts are with you.

God bless those guys and their families. Being a soldier is never a job that brings prosperity, glamour, and security, but instead is a service of a higher stature. Their sacrificies were for our freedom and security to be maintained, and regardless of one's view upon the war in Iraq these two are heroes and saviors of the sword. They are now in a higher place where war, suffering, and violence will no longer affect them, and in this I take comfort while remembering their loss.

There is going to be a memorial service for Keith Smette at 2pm Monday in the NDSU Memorial Union Ballroom.

NDSU is also starting a scholarship in Keith Smette's name. Neither of the two news stories I saw had information about where to send donations.
