Looks like NDSU is ready to take appropriate measures if the need arises-

NDSU would add tennis for Big Sky

The possibility of using Courts Plus is intriguing.....

It was interesting to read the history of tennis and swimming at NDSU. I have a question. If an athletic department tried to drop any women's sports today it would get hit with a lawsuit faster than you could say Title IX, even if the university was compliant. What's changed with Title IX legislation in the last 15 years or so that's made the landscape so much different today.

The thing about Title IX is that there doesn't seem to be any enforcement except through lawsuits. To file such a lawsuit you probably have to be a person directly affected by the problem (a coach or a player) so naturally a coach who gets their sport cut is more likely to file a lawsuit.

NDSU didn't get hit with a lawsuit because they already had been sued. Dropping these sports might even have been part of the effort to comply with Title IX. The suit wasn't over the number of scholarships. I think it was over recruiting budgets, the use of cars by coaches, and (I think) facilities.

Anyway, NDSU really improved as a result.
