Is the tide turning in Grand Forks toward a Division I move? Could the Grand Forks Herald be promoting Divison I?

Frankly, the football schedule makes us want to re-examine our conclusion that Division I status wasn't right for UND. This year's schedule makes it appear that UND is sinking though, rather than holding its own as a Division II power.

Athletics is not the most important thing on a college campus. But a successful athletic program has a lot to do with the university's image - and that has a lot to do with important things such as enrollment levels and alumni loyalty. And that has a big impact on research funding and academic programs.

UND could put together a decent schedule without going DI. I'm surprised (ok, not really) the Herald didn't
suggest the blindingly obvious solution for upgrading UND's non-conference schedule: PUT NDSU ON IT.

And so it begins, the UND attempt to move to D I and save face. I can see it know, "well things have changed, and we need to change with them . . ." Hate to say I told you so, but . . . OK that is not true, I love to say I told you so.

Go SDSU, Go NDSU!

So the Football schedule opened the Herald's eyes on DII?

I guess the Herald neglected to look at the upcoming schedule before they wrote the original editorial (as Tony put it back then: Blah Blah Blah DI Blah Blah (http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforksherald/news/opinion/4827426.htm? )).

I agree with Tony - the Sioux don't have to move up to DI just to improve their schedule. Mr. Jacobs couldn't have looked at the last 25 years of non-conference opponents that the Sioux have been trotting out? And what year did Montana play in the Potato Bowl? I can't recall it off-hand so it must have been in the 60's or early 70's, if Montana has ever played in GF at all.

The only reason that any Potato Bowl was exciting in the past was because UND was as bad as the team it scheduled.
