I'm taking Delaware (watch out for those Hens), N. Arizona, Wofford, and W. Illinois.

I will take Northern Arizona (got to go with the Big Sky team here). Plus, Northern Colorado just about beat FL Atlantic on the road. I think Northern Arizona is much better then UNC, especially after winning big in McNeese last week.

W. KY, W. IL, and Delaware will be the other 3 to round out the final four.

I'm picking the Ass Kickin' Chickens to win it all.

Gotta go with FAU over NAU. They are on a roll.

I agree with Bison_kent's picks but Northern Colorado almost took Florida Atlantic (aren't they going to DI-A soon?) and beat Montana State who beat Northern Arizona.

I don't think Northern Arizona is any better than Northern Colorado. Hopefully, they change the provisional period for DI-AA football so UNC can prove me right in one or two years instead of four.

UNI is a great team from the best conference in the nation for D1AA.

I have the Colgate/WIU game on one of my Fox Sports. Looks like one of the Bison playoff games in the 80's(don't remember what year). Right before the half, the whole field is white, even between the hashes. ;D

Colgate up 14-10.

Holy Cow!

Mel Kiper, Jr. is breaking down the I-AA draft prospects. I doubt they will do that during the DII championship, and this is only the I-AA quarterfinals.

Yeah, they've got the Colgate-Western Illinois game on in New York too. Very cool. My favorite play so far: Colgate's punt returner catches the ball, jogs a couple of steps forward, stops, does a little Muhammad Ali rope-a-dope footwork, and four guys plant him.

Not only was the Mel Kiper thing cool but App State's AD was on at half-time explaining the playoff system and expounding on the state of DI-AA football. He said something along the lines of, "Not only is DI-AA football great, but we've got some really strong DII programs moving up too."

I am watching that game here in Kansas as well. I love those snow games.

That's great to hear about App State's AD, I think that most DIAA schools are happy about NDSU/UNC/UCD moving up, it makes the Division a lot more interesting and competitive IMO. Too bad no one will schedule us.

I was just watching the Syracuse-Notre Dame game and they did a live update of the Delaware-UNI game. I thought that was pretty cool.

Great call on Colgate. If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the first time a Patriot League team has advanced into the semifinals

I watched the Colgate game on TV here in KC on one of the Regional Fox Sports Networks. Wow what a game! It was fantastic. They said they got 11" of snow during the game (maybe not that much but it was snowing BIG TIME).

It was a rough day for the Gateway!

I still think they are the best football conference in the nation.

Colgate looked incredibly tough I think I would pcik them to go all the way. They really put it together in rought weather conditions.

Too bad they didn't make the playoffs.

UNC played (at) FAU close, losing by 8. GWC sounds pretty exciting. I still think UNC was a playoff caliber team.

actually, UNC lost by 2 (21-19). UNC had 5 turnovers and time ran out as they were trying to kick a field goal from about the 6 yard line. UNC dominated that game moving the ball at will and they easily could have won it. FAU's success really makes me think UNC (and most of the GWC teams) have a bright future in I-AA.

hey bear.. what does UNC's schedule looks like in '04 i know their schedule in 03 was about half d2/ half IAA, so i was wondering what type of opponents they will have next year.

That's what I'd thought and posted here before. Today before posting I checking espn.com to double-double check and they had 14-6 (and still do).

Anyways, it's definitely speaks for UNC's quality and prospect as a DIAA power.

Our home schedule looks really good next season. We have UCD, Southern Utah, you, SDSU, and I am pretty sure we have one more quality opponent that I can't remember. Southern Utah is a very legit team that lost a bunch of close games. They should be really tough next year.

Other games include SE Louisiana, and possibly FAU, and Cal Poly, Sam Houston State, St. Mary's.

We will probably also have a warm-up game against some weak d-2 team like Mesa State. I hope to only have one warm-up though. I am ready to see a full I-AA slate.

Oh ya, forgot to comment on the FAU/UNC score being listed as 14-6. It was at one point in the game. UNC missed two extra points to give FAU the two point win (21-19). 5 turnovers by UNC including a fumble by All-American Vincent Jackson. three interceptions thrown by UNC. . . UNC had over 500 yards of offense that day.

I have even tried to talk smack to the FAU fans about how they are the luckiest team on earth for beating UNC. None of them will do anything other than admit that UNC is a good team. Both teams know who was dominant that day and it wasn't the team that won. I hope that UNC still plays FAU next year with its move to I-A. It will be nice to get a win over a I-A.

I consider NDSU to be on par with UNC based on how they both played UCD and either team could win on any given saturday.
With FAU being a final 4 team, it is clear to me that UNC and NDSU could contend for a title as soon as they are eligible.

I agree about the quality of your team, but no one deserves to win with 5 fumbles, that's embarassing. Even worse, it hurts when the other guys are busting their butts and getting results only to lose by 2.

uncbear
12-09-2003, 03:26 AM
You are right, UNC deserved to lose that game. I am just saying that most games UNC is not going to turn it over 5 times so if those two teams met again I think the odds would be in UNC's favor.

It was very embarrassing and in that case very painful to have that sloppy of a game.
