Now that the 2003 season is a memory I'd like to once again welcome NDSU folk to I-AA. I-AA.org has just published it's "2004 I-AA School and Conference Homepage Links" (http://www.i-aa.org/section_front.asp?arttypeid=566) page including NDSU, and added appropriate links to NDSU fan sites and messageboard to our FAN ZONE (http://www.i-aa.org/section_front.asp?arttypeid=594). Another point of interest is the addition of our newest columnist, Kent Schmidt (http://www.i-aa.org/section_front.asp?arttypeid=740) (an NDSU alum) who will cover the I-AA West.

Though you may not be able to surprise anyone after you beat Montana last year, we expect that the Bison will finish in the GPI top 50 this year.

I-AA.org is non-profit and the top news service of I-AA. You can get free email updates by subscribing to I-AA.org Magazine email edition (http://www.i-aa.org/newsletters.asp) (read our very secure privacy statement (http://www.collegesportingnews.com/article.asp?articleid=43810)).

Looking forward to 2004 I-AA!
-Ralph

Why can't the Ivy League schools go to the playoffs anymore?

The Ivy Presidents might not want the appearance of placing athletics on the same level as academics. *Delaware went to the I-AA Champ game this year during finals week...the Ivys currently (and they are split on this) would not go down that road. *I would like to see the Ivy and SWAC champs in the playoffs, and any at-large teams they might have any given year. The Ivys are the ANCIENT EIGHT and they might be influenced as such to take the high road.

As recently as the mid 90's i've seen schools like Dartmouth in the playoffs on some TV going over older pros and what they did in college. Why the change?!

As for the SWAC, they don't do the play-offs because they have a championship game, right? Or the Grabling-Southern game..or something. Right?

I think you are mistaken. Ivy League teams have never participated in the playoffs in football.

You are correct about the SWAC. The SWAC doesn't participate due to the Bayou Classic between Grambling and Southern, which occurs around Thanksgiving every year.

perhaps it was just a great win then, but i swear it was Dartmouth vs. some other team and i thought it said "D1-AA playoffs".

I just checked the history of the 1-aa playoffs and there are no Ivy league teams at all, so i was wrong.

But i remember it was dartmouth because it was green uni's with those darmouth helmets (the ones with the 2 arch stripes on each side).

BisonFan1234,

There have never, ever, never ever never been any playoffs in 1-aa or 1-AA. Check out this article-http://i-aa.org/article.asp?articleid=44189

I'm not picking on you, it's just a convenient time to point out to all Bison fans that it's spelled I-AA. That, and I think it's Ralph's pet peave. ;) ;D

hey ralph.. is there any way to disable unregistered posts on anygivensaturday, it is frustrating to read flames from an unregistered poster who claims to represent your school

AnyGivenSaturday hosts the I-AA.org Magazine Forum which is registered posters only. Also the I-AA Etc. Board there is registered posters only. The Smack and Other Sports Boards are open to anyone. So smack and other stuff besides I-AA are read at your own risk.
