This has some information pertaining to Sacramento State too.

Sac state could join as awell and go to the big west for other sports while UNC, NDSU, and SDSU could join the mid-continent.

I've also included the story at http://collegesportsinfo.com/news

I'm pretty curious as to what they will call the conference, but it is one of the names listed in the article according to league sources. Everyone will have to wait until the Spring for everything to be official.

14 sports are sponsored by the Sky that Sac participates in at the varsity level.

17 sports are sponsored by the Big Worst that Sac participates in at the varsity level.

To move to the Big Worst would not make financial sense. Playing in a football league that would require FURTHER travel is not a benefit. We play St. Fairies, Davis, CP and sometimes SUU every year anyway. That will change with more IA schools being added.

The new Western league would be temporary, which Sac might like, as it sorts out its league association. But the travel argument is moot.

BTW...the Olympic Trials will be held at Sac State this July. There will be over 120,000 people. Media from all over the world. Gonzalez has said he would have an announcement of football's division/league by June.

Coincidence? Or the biggest media day to announce big plans for the athletics program including football? I don't think he would wait until such spotlight to doom anything. *

We open at Nevada.

What about big west having softball and baseball?

We were in the BW and the WAC in baseball/softball. The BW does not have football.

That's why i said the Great West for football and the Big West for the rest of the sports...including baseball and softball.

Yup, that's the problem with Democracy, the majority wins. Forget whatever else thinks. ::)

America is a Representative Democracy, not a true majority wins government. It may not be perfect, but is there something getter?

Yeah it's called everyone makes up there own mind does whatever they want to do.

I'll admit that in small groups where the whole group has to make a decision as a group then democracy becomes the fairest way.

But democracy isn't the fairest way to do something in general.

So that makes you an anarchist, libertarian, or what? I am starting to believe that you just like to rile people up with your posts. Am I right? Have a great day.

You'd probably look good with the red army.

Politics? Do we really have to talk about politics?

I think it's time to get on with this new football conference. If the BIG Sky doesn't want us fine. It's time to show the other potential players in the conference we are serious and want this to work. I really think the Great West or whatever we want to call it from top to bottom will rival the Big Sky in Footall in very short order.

No not Gordon, but maybe his well indoctrinated grand son, might be a better guess. Speeding on I-29 is more than permissible according to Bison1234.

Back to the conference, its going to be interesting to see what happens in the next few months. If not the Big Sky then the new conference without a name.

Im thinking like JackGuy. DiAA needs the new conference, the Mid-Con management would stabalize it, it provides room for expansion if other teams in the region want to move up, we still get a Ca. trip or two a year and we will get a lot of BSC competition with the non conference games. It looks very good to me and Im sure the Mid Con will provide all the competition we need in the other sports.

If Sac State joins the new conference as well then it would definately be as good as the Big Sky.

Thanks, too bad you guys don't play baseball and softball. I am sure those will be sports that sway a decision.

We (SDSU & NDSU) Do play baseball and softball. I think NDSU is #1 in the nation (D2) in softball right now.

Sac-State,

As previously answered, NDSU and SDSU have baseball and softball. The NDSU women's softball team won the DII national championship in 2000. NDSU's schedules are a little different, as they try to schedule games farther south early in the season and home games in the latter half because it's a little brisk in early spring. NDSU even has some pretty decent stadiums, check 'em out:

Baseball Stadium (http://www.gobison.com/facilities/newman.shtml)
It's shared with a minor league team, and is never that packed for Bison games :-/

Softball complex (http://www.gobison.com/facilities/softball.shtml)

My bad, I knew you played those sports.

We have a tough time playing our Spring schedule too, lots of rain and snow in N. Cali this time of year.

It is a big disadvantage playing teams that have year round weather to practice in.

That is just http://www.freewebs.com/great_western_conf/ in a frame on your page collegesportsinfo. *Why would you want people to go to your page instead of the source? *It's not a redirect at all.
