In the Dakotas, there is one fall Saturday every year when each of the states stands still to watch one football game. The two rivalries garnering this attention, the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux versus the North Dakota State University Bison, and the University of South Dakota Coyotes versus the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits, are partially gone at least for the 2004 season and could be for the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't sweat it long term. Sac State and Davis faced the same thing when Sac went IAA 14 years ago.

We never got to the point of not playing football though. Just basketball was dropped. Especially after we hit a dry spell in the 'w' column. If a IAA loses to a D2 in football, it pretty much eliminates your chance of post season play. Especially if you are an independent.

Sounds like UND and USD are just being babies by not playing the spectator sports. It would hurt the RPI of NDSU, being IAA, to lose to a D2 school though.

I am sure the fans of UND will notice a drop in competition by playing the D2 no-names that they will schedule to replace NDSU and SDSU.
