By BOB MESEROLL, Missoulian sports editor

University of Montana assistant men's basketball coach Brian Marso was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with drunken driving.

According to police reports, Marso, 31, was stopped for traveling 40 mph in a 25 mph speed zone in the 600 block of West Broadway on Sunday at 2:10 a.m. Marso was also cited for failing to have proof of insurance.

Marso and the Grizzlies were eliminated from the Big Sky Conference postseason tournament by Idaho State on Saturday afternoon in Pocatello. They returned home by bus at about 10 p.m. that night.

Montana interim athletic director Marie Porter said no disciplinary action will be taken until Marso's case is resolved in court.

"It's a serious thing, but Brian's been a great employee in the short time he's been here," Porter said. "I don't believe it's a pattern, but it's a serious mistake."
