Does anyone have a list of the last 10 teams to move from DII to DI?

And, what conference they were invited to before making the move?

Just curious.

Not the last 10 but some examples I found. *Looks like there isn't much opportunity to move right into a conference.

Jacksonville University

Troy State
1990-1992 *Division II Independent

Youngstown State.
1988-1996 *Division I-AA Independent

Don't forget Georgia Southern...while the school was a member of the TAAC, the TAAC didn't have football, so:

1981 - 1983: club level
1984 - 1992: Independent, winning four National Championships
1993 - present: Southern Conference

I think hardly anyone moves directly into a conference...from what came out of SLC, our entry level status hurt us and UND's lack of committment hurt them even more...K's argument that you have a conference before you make a move seems an impossibility to me...

Good job! *You figured out exactly what I was thinking. *

BTW, That's a great example. 4 N.C. before they got into a conference. Impressive.

Youngstown St also won 3 National Championships prior to joining a conference. Youngstown St won #4 during their first Gateway Conference year.

Its reassuring so see the fact. You arent going to have a conference before you move. Obviously NDSU and SDSU understood this. UNC had a lot going for them from the apparent perspective of the BSC and they were 1 more important year ahead of us in the transition. They may have set the record for fastest transition with full conference invite.

UNC hasn't gotten a conference invite yet. I wonder when they truly disect the financials at UNC if it's even viable for them to do it. Remember they had only around 40 football scholarships this year and need to get to 63 in a hurry.
